Police Check in Vancouver?

Anyone here do their fingerprinting in Vancouver?

I'm going to go and get my fingerprints and stuff done in Vancouver and just wanted to double check that I know what I'm doing (or not). The part in italics is what I'm really not sure about.

1. Fill out the VPD Consent and Disclosure form

2. Take 2 pieces of pic ID and cash to VPD Office on Main St.

3. Get fingerprinted, give police a self addressed envelope for them to send the fingerprints to me.

4. Once I get the fingerprints by mail, send them to Ottawa to get a certificate on Non-conviction

Should I request more than 1 copy in case it gets lost on the way to Ottawa (if I even need to do this in the first place)

I'd love to hear any experiences you've had with this.

Thanks!

Just like to say if you live in canada, and you have NO criminal history, you do NOT need fingerprints!! Only a background check! and that 1 wil cover ALL of canada. As long as it has CPIC checked off. Im sure people in the vancouver region will pipe up

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

We went to Commissionaires in downtown Van on Burrard to get ours done.

Very helpful! I just did a google search and couldn't find one on Burrard but this one on Howe looks like it would work, too.

Malrothien, did you just get the 1 copy or request an additional one, just in case?

Thanks again! :)

Hi Chikarakobu,

When I got my police certificate done at the Vancouver Police Department, they didn't need my fingerprints. I only got one copy mailed to me (so I just made photocopies of that).

Curious, Biglos...

you mention Finger prints? I had my police record check done in Toronto and it was checked through the RCMP data base. No fingerprints were necessary .I have no criminal past and all.

I was wondering, does Vancouver do it a different way? Like you have to have fingerprinting done or something?

Thanks so much,

LGG

Yea, waaay back when we started this process, I didnt know how long it would take to get my clearance so I went downtown to the VPD and had my fingerprints done. It has since then expired and wondering if I should go and get a recent clearance done, but I want the results to come asap!

Yes, I added you to the Montreal timeline to interview thread, congratulations!

I was just wondering since you asked about getting it done but already have your interview booked. You do know if you have no criminal record you don't need the fingerprint version, just the name check version?
