Has anyone notice that airline tickets to China has double, they are over $2,000 now. Do anyone know a cheaper airlines, or any other way to get a cheaper fight, that I don't know about? I would like to go to my fiance interview December 28.

Hi Tom,

Which city are you looking to flying into? Since you are going to Guangzhou for the interview you may want to check out the airfares into Hong Kong. You can fly into Hong Kong and then take the train to Guangzhou for about $25 - that is what I did for Jin's interview. I bought a ticket a couple of weeks ago for a flight from Atlanta to Hong Kong on Feb 5 for about $950 - I got my ticket directly from Delta's website. I am sure that the fact that you will be flying during the Christmas holidays probably has something to do with the high airfares that you are finding as well. Good Luck!

Tom - I KNOW prices increase after DEC 7, is peak season till mid january...

but...

what portal are you using to check prices?

what is your jump city in the usa ?

I am fan of China Southern , go LAX to CAN.

Now - I check prices on Orbitz, a lot - and I see variances based on how many days before, also which day to fly. without tax, best rt i found from houston was 720, worst was 1108.... tax between 290 to 408, depending.

now - can explain a bit more about 'what' you are doing to find pricing?

OH - USUALLY an asian travel agent in USA will have the 'best' prices, but you must already know which flights you want ... ( orbitz great for research )

if you are coming out of pensacola - is possible to jump florida to lax for cheap on OTHER airline, then jump LAX-CAN on China Southern airlines... is seperate ticketing, might be a hassle ..

I note another China couple that live in Florida - the usc spouse always routed from florida to new york (Continental for NY to PKG leg ) to beijing , then on to guangzhou.... he found that routing FASTER , and liked it...

other variables - weekend travel days more expensive than mid-week.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I flew Asiana Airlines last time I went over from JFK to Guangzhou (with a stop in Seoul) and it was really nice.

Their flight rates seem to fluctuate wildly from reasonable to outlandish, so you have to keep an eye on them. A quick glance at the flights in that date range seems expensive to me too.

There's a certain window of opportunity when you book flights that is not too far in advance and not too soon where you will get the best rates. I have a feeling you're now in the "too soon" timeframe, so you're going to pay for it.

I've heard lots of people say that the Hong Kong route tends to be cheaper too. In my case, it was a wash, so I flew directly to Guangzhou to save myself the trouble of making the connection.

Air China Limited (dunno who that is or if it's a decent airline) is running fares from JFK to Guangzhou to $907 round trip. (817 if you go to Hong Kong instead) So, if you were able to get to NYC cheaply, that might not be a bad way to go. Pretty bad layover in Beijing though.

Cathay Pacific (great airline) to Hong Kong is $1465 on those dates.

I checked some of the other big international hubs in the states for departure points and wasn't able to come close to JFK for rates. A good travel agent may be able to find you even better.

Tom and Hongyan,

I was also looking to go for the same time you are and the prices have really jumped just for the holiday season. I went 4 times this year from Boston to Guangzhou via Hong Kong. Like other posters i highly recommend the high speed train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou. If you take the bus it will be cheap but will take 3 hours or so. The train is relaxing and you can see some of the nice scenery on the way out of Hong Kong. I have decided to travel the last week of January and find my best deals on Continental for about $900 +-. If you are flying from the East Coast of the US then Continental also has the shortest flights that go up over the Arctic Circle and down in to Hong Kong from Boston or Newark that take about 15/16 hours. Some flights are crazy and take much much longer, but those are the best ones if you can swing it. If price is more of a factor and time isnt as important you can take some of the very long red eye flights through S.Korea that can be as long as 40+ hours but are 700 give or take. Ok, I wish you luck my friend. Take care.

Chris

Because of China's location there are tons of ways to get there. I always take the flight from tampa or orlando to newark and then on to beijing. That is the fastest and often the cheapest for me (if you book in advance). Other ways are a flight to tokyo and then boat to the north of china (boat ticket is about $125 or so), south korea and hong kong are both options, and so is taiwan now.

Chris,

Thanks for the information, I am trying that route, but with not much luck coming out of Pensacola Florida. My fiance is flying into Guangzhou on the 25 at night and her interview is on the 28. I don't mind doing a red eye fight but I just don't know to much about this darn computer and all of the ways to get to the sites, but I am learning. I too went to China 4 times in 10 months. I have plenty of sky miles but there is no tickets available. Thanks for all the help all of you that has posted.

Best website for viewing all airlines at once is www.kayak.com. I am going to GZ in January from LA and I am finding Air China flights through BJ for $700. Good luck to you.
