Wow. Why do all the interesting things happen on days I'm gone?

I just read through all 14 pages of this thread and added my US and my old Canadian homestead.

For the record I played around with the old map for a good 15 minutes before I realized you guys had made a new one. That other one was brutal! Good idea to switch.

Out of curiosity, who's placemark 52? Is that an accident? Because I didn't think anyone even lived out there :P

I think we all had too much coffee this morning and managed to fill up a good 12+ places in discussion over a single map, haha.

Is 52 the marker way up in the Arctic? I think that's where we banish the Canaliens who don't behave...

 no its off I-70 in Kansas near the Colorado border. Its not even in a town. Its like no mans land off the highway. There might be some like cows that live out there, or people who feed the cows?

How the heck do you make your icon something cool? I can't figure it out...

I noticed that Placemark 52 too... It wasnt one of my retarded moves, I swear! ... or I think

I cant figure out how to change my icon into something different than a blue pin either. I thought maybe all the good ones were taken?

Ok I am late to the party!

How do I add a marker in the map? Does my google user name show up on the map when I do figure out how to do this?

Sorry, I am just so technologically dumb!

I was playing with the map and I have a few random observations...

Avery: I'm pretty jealous you live so close to Cedar Point. Actually I'm really jealous... Bill and I love that place. This is the first year we didn't go in a long time because of the whole wedding thing..

Sam: Do you REALLY live in Point Pelee National Park? And, random question, do people live in that island? Pelee Island? Because that would be sweet.

Rhiann and Marilyn: So the next time I'm in Fontana for the NASCAR Race I'll use your couch? Yes? (just kidding! ;))

Why yes, yes I dooooo. :innocent:

And yes, I believe there are about 2k people living on Pelee Island. I have NO idea why... (No offense to anyone who might, but damn...) That number jumps to 10k+ during tourist season.

heheh I know what you mean about living on the island - especially in Winter. During the winter the ferries often stop running due to the ice in Lake Erie so the only way in and out is by plane. School children who live on the island actually board on the mainland so they can go to school as there is no highschool on the island and for a while there was no elementary school (don't know if there is now) and sometimes don't make it back home for weeks at a time. Residents stock up on all sorts of supplies while the ferries run and then there are weekly supply flights when the lake is iced up. The island gets a lot of the ravages of wicked winter storms as well as there is nothing to stop the swoop of the wind across the open water/ice and it tends to be very very cold. During the summer, the ferry is a great day's get away and on the island there are the vinyards, great swimming, a nice museum and some other touristy things to do but a lot of it is just being on the island.

Most of the kids who attend highschool here in Leamington actually stay with someone throughout the year, and occasionally go back home on weekends. There's one elementary school (or there was, last I knew), K-8.
