No, not yet, but we're thinking next July. Trying to explain that we can't set a date yet has ALSO managed to flip out my mother and innumerable aunts.

Yep, me too. But damnit it feels sooooooooooooo good to get approved & finally make plans! I only booked our place for 2/2/07 last week. We're doing a quickie wedding in November then the ceremony in Feb. in Florida.

I have a rant. It's kind of long, so y'all may want to skip.

My co-worker is out on maternity leave, so I am working for 3 attorneys as a paralegal and handling all office management stuff such as paying bills, payroll, getting broken toilets fixed, etc. I'm not supposed to work until 8:30, but I get here every day at 7 b/c my husband's job starts at 7 and he doesn't have his license yet. So I start work at 7 trying to play catch-up for the 3 jobs I'm doing. I work through lunch so I can take my lunch hour at 3:30 to go pick up my husband and run him home so he's not standing on the side of the road for 2 hours (public transportation in my town is not the best).

Well, the other day, my boss got into the office at 11, and left at 1 to go to the gym. I reminded her about a deadline that had to get done that day, and she said she would read the important records while she was on the treadmill. She knows I've been taking my lunch hour to run my husband home. Well, she just so happens to decide to come back from the gym and begin working on the deadline at 3:45, when I was, of course, on my lunch break.

I get back and see a nasty e-mail from her telling me that on days we have deadlines (which is pretty much every day), I don't need to take my lunch late in the afternoon because I'm the only one in the office right now who can get out the deadlines.

To some extent, I understand her point. But the thing is, I start early, am here when I am supposed to be here, and often stay late to make sure the deadlines are finished. I don't feel like I should be punished because she wants to spend her day at the gym and doesn't decide to start working until 2 hours before we close. I'm also salaried, so I often work weekends if we have a trial coming up. The balance is that I'm supposed to be allowed to miss work here and there for dr.'s appointments, etc. to make up for that extra time.

If she wants to put me on a time clock, then she needs to understand that I'll work from 8:30-5:30, take my lunch from 12-1, and at 5:30, I'm leaving whether the deadlines are done or not. It will never happen that way, though, because if the deadline didn't get done by 5:30, and I left, I'd lose my job.

Sorry, I just really needed to get that off of my chest. Already feeling better....

OK, my rant for the day. Sorry it's so long...

A few months ago Derek went in for his annual checkup. The nurse who drew his blood mistakenly sent it to the wrong lab, Quest, to be processed. Our insurance, Anthem, only deals with one lab, LabCorps, so when Quest billed Anthem, Anthem refused to pay. So Quest sent the bill on to us. Like to guess how much a regular blood test costs these days? Try $425.67! :o

So after picking myself up off the floor after reading the bill from Quest, I called my doctor's office. To their credit, they admitted they made mistake and said they would "take care of it". Flash forward almost a month and what arrives in the mail? Another bill for $425.65. Now I am getting irritated. So I called the doctor's office again. The person who said they would take care of it blamed another nurse in the office for not contacting Quest a month ago, but said she would take of it herself this time.

I just got off the phone with her and she told me two things that amaze and frustrate me to no end. First, Quest will now be billing the doctor's office instead of us (yea!) and the doctor gets a discount so the bill will be much less. Now it pisses me off when insurance and doctors pay so much less than Joe citizen for medical care, but I was amazed at how much less. The new total of the bill is $35.25! Are they kidding me??? We would have had to pay almost $400 more because we are not a doctor's office?! Unbelievable.

Second thing is that the doctor's office then tried to make us reimburse them the $35.25! For their admitted mistake! When I put up a fuss, the nurse tried to make me feel guilty and said that she helping as much as she could, but the doctor's mean office manager who handles the billing may bill us anyway. I agreed that $35.25 was not that much money in the grand scheme of things, but it was THEIR mistake and Derek and I should not have to pay for it.

Long story short, the doctor's office now sees things our way. But we might need to look for a new doctor!

Agreed. I am more concerned about reprisals for being considered difficult. Similar to after you complain a lot in a restaurant, worrying about what special "ingrediants" are put in your food.

What you just described is what I do for a living for a competitor of Anthem. I chase after overpayments allllll day long. Its scary how badly billings are mismanaged.

Which is probably part of the reason why health care is so expensive, sigh.

Really? Did you apply in person at the SSN office? My husband did it the day after we got to the U.S. and received his card in exactly a week.

Here's my rant for the day: I got this referral for a listing on Friday. Referring agent was a bit of a biotch, but whatever....she's this very gruff woman who sounds like a man & couldn't hack it as an agent so now she's off doing a regular paying job. Anyways, I get the referral, and the referring broker says that this agent knows the deal as far as this referral. So I call her.

Agent says seller is not home til 645, but long and short of it is the house needs selling pronto. This was Friday, btw...so on Friday night at 7, I call...I get answering machine. I leave a msg and tell her that I'm in her area on Sat doing an open house, and if she wants me to pop by to see the house and get the ball rolling, I can do it after 4. I tell her to call me.

Saturday at my open house...at 2:07 I call again. Voicemail again. I reiterate almost similar message like 'oh it's a shame because I was hoping to stop by to intro myself after my open house' I tell her to call me again. No reply.

Today I speak to my boss. I say 'I know it's a referral (they take that seriously)...but I am not going to chase this woman. If she wanted to sell, she'd call me back' She agrees, and I leave a voicemail for the referring agent....I say...I called at this time and this time and I got voicemail blah blah blah...'

I just missed a call from the agent a few mins ago...agent in her know it all tone is all like 'I just spoke with her and she said you never called on Friday or Saturday, but that you called Sunday morning at 7am'

YEAH OK!

Like #######???? Obviously withl cell phones, I can prove when I called...now either the agent or the seller is insane, so I think I'm passing this on, lol

BUT THE NERVE! Like I'd call someone at 7am. Like I'd even be up at 7am, ffffssssssssssss
