Ok - I have a rant. From yesterday.

A friend of mine came over and we were experimenting with some recipes for Black Forest Cake... that's going to be our wedding cake and I want it to be as authentic tasting as possible...

So we looked for recipes - she has a German cookbook... I found one online, and I posted a thread here and was given a link to a wonderful recipe which I have yet to try.

My rant?

Units of measure. What a pain in the a$$. Why can't the entire world agree to ONE set of measurements? We did the best we could with the conversion tables on line, but it would be nice to cook using a 'foreign' recipe without having to have a math degree to do the conversion....

Our results tasted ok, but do you think we'll be able to recreate it? Ha.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

I hate the entire 'wedding-industrial complex.' Had my first argument with my mother because I offered to pay for my sisters' bridesmaid dresses. Because that's not Done in the oh-so-hallowed customs handed down from Modern Bride of 1975.

'What will his parents think? That's not right!' Well, they're not going to be here, it's his money, and ya mighta noticed the damn visa paperwork that makes the normal lameass rules of wedding even lamer.

Ha, if you asked my boyfriend that, he would say, "the entire world DID agree on one set of measurements--YOU PEOPLE just decided not to go along with it." Then I bring up England, but that usually doesn't help. :P

minor rant:

a friend of ours, a very good friend, complains that she is sick and tired of having "gay" shoved down her throat. She doesn't agree with it and is very prejudice towards it because of her religion. Well... I'm sick and tired of having religion shoved down my throat! and just want to say before anyone says anything, most people here don't do that :)

Today at work when I got a little bored and had no e-mail, I did what I always do: visit VJ. But lo! All message boards and forums had been blocked! Egads! So I can't sit on VJ all day at work anymore.

This is awful because they also announced that for the next two weeks they need me from 6 am to 11 am and then 4 pm to 9 pm, M-Sat. To accomodate the schedules of Northwest airlines employees. GRR. So I have a nice unpaid 5-hour gap in my work day and I live too far to drive home. ####### am I going to do at the airport for 5 hours with no work? And how am I going to get any sleep when I'm only going to be physically in my home seven hours out of every 24, assuming all I do is drive from home to work?

GAH!

I just got my bill from Verizon for my local telephone service and DSL - $1,900! ...of which $1,680 of it is for 5 hours of calls I made to Jinky at the rate of $4.88 per minute! I called them this morning and the person I spoke with put in a request to have me rebilled at the .16 per minute charge that I was told I had before I made the calls. I have to wait at least a couple of weeks for them to sort this out. At least she admitted that no one in their right mind would have made those calls at that rate. I laughed...but I'm sure my laughter sounded like someone already out of his mind. :P

No, not yet, but we're thinking next July. Trying to explain that we can't set a date yet has ALSO managed to flip out my mother and innumerable aunts.
