Hello

Im absolutely frustrated and scared to death right now.

I have a K1 Visa. I moved to the states. We got married. We could not file AOS because my husbands EX would not send us papers we needed. As this was still going on we sent off everything but the one paper we needed. Of course they requested it but we anyhow had the biometrics taken yesterday and we are still waiting on those stupid papers that we now requested from somewhere else.

Today we went to the local DMV and found out they could not help us. They cant give me a new license until i have the green card.

I have an expired license with my maiden name from IL but IL says i need to come there to get a new one. I can afford that.

So now i have a german license and my husband will deploy in a couple days. Ill be alone and wont be able to drive to the INTERVIEW!!! to get groceries or go to doctors appointments. What can i do? this cant be real!!!!!

Is there a chance that ill get a license if i go to a different DMV???

and i wont get the work permit until we send in those papers. right???

please help me i dont know how im supposed to survive the upcoming months :(

oh and if this helps: i already got my SSN

In order to get a new license in NC (even though you had an expired one from IL) you need to prove your legal presence in the USA, meaning you either need an EAD or Permanent Resident Card. That's the requirement. All DMV in NC are the same and they are linked. It won't help if you go to a different office.

I hope you get your EAD soon. They might issue you that even if you don't have sufficient documents.

Cheers.
