I wish/hope its 400 dollars a month for the two of us, but I think its just for me :( Im sure this is like ultra good insurance, and I told my MIL if we are paying 400 for health care just for me, I will be the doctors office every week :P

I did find some decent private insurance. Made another local to a local broker and said that I can get insured without waiting for 6 months... hope what he is saying is true :P Its barebones but it works!

That monthly sum is just your monthly payment. You are going to have copays for everything as well. And, unfortunately, it will be middle of the line insurance. You really don't want to know what ridiculously good insurance costs. The state pays for mine :D

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Sam: I think my husband's company pays for his insurance in full, so I guess it make sense to charge a high premium for spouses. Not really sure how insurance works in this sense -- I guess some company subsidizes some part of the insurance, and some like my husband's pays for it in full.

Anyway, regardless, it covers for basic health care, and you do pay out of pocket for certain things. Ive been lucky that I have never had to use the health care system in the US even when I was studying, except for physicals.

Treble: Darn, and I was looking forward to spending Friday afternoons at the doctor's office.

My hope is that I get a full time teaching job at the college Ive applied to... and if not, Ive seen some policies that are halfway decent. Not sure what they will cover though :P

Finally married... and still married... ;)

Good to know, thanks!

I'll definitely have to ask him/look into what all is involved. I'll be completely honest - I don't have the slightest clue how health insurance works over there, and I suppose it isn't a good idea to wait to figure it all out when I actually need it.

Health insurance can be a pain - it depends on the company.

At my job in Seattle - I didn't pay anything as the company paid all of the monthly fees. I did have a $200/year deductible and $20 copays for doctor's visits - but my insurance did include vision insurance which is not all that common. I got to pick my own doctor within the network.

I had an ER visit while on it - I ended up only paying $350 total for the entire thing - including ambulance. Not bad for a non-profit organization. :D

They do offer temporary health insurance plans for immigrants from 2 months to 2 year coverage... They are a bit bare bones, but you can compare some different plans... here are some websites that specialize in it... I cannot vouch for any of these and you will have to do additional research, but you get the gist of them and what they offer...
