when to start the next step after sending I-130?

i think the i-130 will be given to the California Service Center. When should I start collecting the copies like the petitioner or the joint sponsor's tax returns, employer's letter, filling out I-864, DS 230 etc?

Collecting documents is a good idea now. However, you'll want to be careful about things like the police certificate because consulates will only accept them up to a certain point. Many consulates put a 6 month validity on the police certificate so I wouldn't go out and get that now. But the beneficiarires long form birth certificate, the tax forms etc could be collected now

petitioner and co-sponsor needs to provide evidence of citizenship - that might be the long form birth certificate for your particular case

thank you for the reply. but now i found that the joint sponsor may not be able to have a copy of the birth certificate.....

i was reading the instruction of I-864 (http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-864.pdf), it says:

'Proof of U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident status is required for joint and substitute sponsors and for relatives of employment-based immigrants who file this form. Petitioning relatives who have already filed proof of their citizenship or immigration status with Forms I-130, Form I-129F, I-600 and I-600A do not need to submit proof of their status with this form.

Proof of U.S. citizen or national status includes a copy of your birth certificate, certificate of naturalization, certificate of citizenship, consular report of birth abroad to citizen parents,or a copy of the biographic data page of your U.S. passport.'

does it mean

1. the petitioning relatives = the petitioner?

2. 'a copy of your birth certificate, certificate of naturalization, certificate of citizenship, consular report of birth abroad to citizen parents,or a copy of the biographic data page of your U.S. passport' means a certified copy of any of those?

3. where can the joint sponsort get a certified copy/copy of the passport biographic data page?
