I tried a walk-in at the Santa Ana, CA service center this morning, a little after 8am. There were a few people waiting already, but as far as I could tell noone there (security, receptionist, technician) even looked at the original time of my biometrics appointment. I was out of there in ~45 min. :)

That's a great start to the week, longey! :) Glad to hear you were able to do a walk-in instead of having to reschedule! :)

So in the meantime, can I go down to my local Social Security office and register for a SSN? If I took copies of my NOAs, passport etc with me (my I-94 expired last week) of course.

I know I can't do anything until I have my EAD but I figured it's better to do what I can in the meantime?

Hey Lovelyalex,

I don't think you can get a SS number until you get your EAD... I've had my number 7 years and tried to change my name taking with me NOA's passport, marriage cert etc... They wouldn't even change my name as they said I had no work reason to need a soc at this stage... My I-94 was also just expired by a few days... Kindof sucks as this is the time to get all our ids changed - when we aren't working... When I get my EAD I now have to goto Social Security change my name and then wait a few days for it to be in the DMV system (the CA DMV won't change it until SS have) and then go change my name at the DMV.

You might want to look on the `working and travelling before green card' forum there's lots of info on SS on there.

Good Luck

Awesome thanks marie! The expiration date of the I-94 completely caught on me so I guess I'll have to wait for now. :)

Hey y'all...

Happy new year......

I'm finally able to come online after a few days of being away from home with no internet.. was unable to bear it.. :crying:

Well, i did a walk-in biometric appointment on the 31st at the ASC columbus, OH and it went relatively well....

I got there at about 8am and met only about 2 people on seat... I asked if i was able to get fingerprinted, the lady was so nice and said yes..

So all in all, i was in and out by 8:20am...

I'm glad this is out of the way.

Does anyone know how long after the biometrics you get the EAD and AP card? plus does the walk-in appointment change the processing date or do they still go by the original biometric appointment date?

Thanks y'all and good luck to us all

Yay! Congrats on the walk in! I have no clue on if the walk in speeds things up... I think it helps if your biometrics apt was scheduled kindof late relative to everyone else in your filing date. I know some biometrics letters were really delayed in October. Then when they showed up the people were approved like day off walk in type thing. I haven't really figured out if it speeds things up otherwise...It will help them get started on your finger print background check early though. For November filers right now they seem to be approving EAD & AP by filing date...

Good Luck & congrats again on getting another stage done!

December filer here...just wanted to say hi to my fellow December filers. Hasn't been much going on. We sent back our RFE for the Vacc Supplement. We think we're going to get another one for the TB skin test. Had our biometrics in Milwaukee on Friday. Arrived an hour and a half early but they took me in right away. I think they knew it was a long drive for us. Here's hoping we all hear something soon. Take care all.

Hey there :) I hope you won't get another RFE! I know i've been reading on some of the family based aos filers that they have been getting RFE's with something to do with the skin test. Whatever boat you're in, I hope it goes by quickly for you! Glad the biometrics went well for you! I'm not looking forward to the drive either for biometrics... but.. at least I have family there so it'll give me an excuse to take a half day to see them. :)

I just want my AP so I can go home...I could care less about the AOS right now. I just want to get home to see my dad. I know my honey is worried about the EAD. Oh well, there is really nothing you can do to speed them up!

Had my biometrics taken today... my appointment was for 9am, but we got their early, so we actually ended up leaving at 9am, which was good. I nearly missed them calling my name as I was sitting around the corner!

The staff were very friendly and professional but more relaxed that I had anticipated, but this might be because it was a Friday. The women who took my finger prints was very quick and we chatted briefly. We had to bring in our 14 month old daughter and she hammed it up to the security guard etc and other people waiting and no one seemed to mind thankfully. There were a handful of people in there waiting, but it looked as if they were there for interviews, as they all went into a separate door after being called from me.

All in all it was a swift turn around. I filled the form out whilst I waited (around 15 minutes) and then the finger print sets (I think she did my bands about 6 times!) and the photo was about 10 mins and then I was free to go!
