Hi,

A rather odd question here but here goes.

We are currently waiting on our K-1 NOA2, but thinking ahead to the interview. My question is regarding the inevitable "how did you meet?" question...how much detail are they looking for here? Are they interested in how you first made contact online, or when you first met in real life, or just to check your answer matches up to what you put on the I129-F form?

The reason I ask is because we met under rather... embarrassing circumstances, i.e. in a chat room on a web site that i'm sure the American government does not approve of...

On the I-129f we said we met on a "social networking site" which is the truth, just a social networking site for strange people :P!

Regards,

Arch

Might be an issue elsewhere, but not normally for the UK.

I doubt if you will be asked, social networking site sounds good to me.

London doesn't really care how you met, they focus more on the financial aspect of the process.

If they do ask, just say "We met on a social networking site, hit it off, start chatting and met face to face x weeks/ months later when I/he/she flew to wherever and spent x weeks/months together getting to know each other in person.' No word of a lie but you moved the conversation onto your face to face meeting, which is what they're more interested in.

Timeline Summary:

K-1/K-2 NOA1 - POE: 9 February - 9 July 2010

Married: 17 July 2010

AOS mailed - Interview : 22 November 2010 - 10 March 2011

ROC mailed - approved: 14 February - 18 June 2013

Citizenship mailed - ceremony: 9 February - 7 June 2017

Thanks, this was essentially what i was planning on doing.

Interesting that they focus more on the financial side, despite a notice on their own site saying they dont require the affadavit forms filled out (we are taking them as a precaution, as better safe than sorry, but just a point of interest.)

They did specifically ask my husband how we met. It is a very common question at the interview. They want to know, they just don't need to know (or care) about any unusual proclivities you and yours might have. You can simply explain that you initially met online and after chatting for a while you decided to meet in person and describe when/where that was.

I just said "we met on a forum in 2003 and then in person in 2005 when I traveled to Boston". They didn't ask anymore.

When I told the ConOff that I met my husband online he asked for the name of the website. That doesn't mean to say that it will happen to you, but I thought I'd better let you know that it does happen sometimes.

My husband was asked how we met, and he told the CO we are both computer geeks and so we met online. The CO commented that his sister met her husband online and they'd been married for 10 years.

You have Facebook accounts, right? :) (a rhetorical question)

I know this is going off topic but wanted to answer this as I definitely read this too.....however, I think it's safe to say that supplying an Affidavit of Support is the best way to cover your ####. :)

When I had my interview at the London Embassy the lovely American lady who interviewed me said it was the norm now days that people where meeting online in chat rooms so don't worry about it :D. But yeah they also wanna check your telling the truth and to see if what you put on your form matches.

Out of interest, did you name the specific site on your petition? Might be if the CO had that information, he wanted to check that your fiance (since he technically filed the petition) and you agree on where you met?
