Tax Returns

Sorry, but I'm confused, hope someone can help me.

My fiance and me are trying to get all documents together before we get NOA2, so the process does not get delayed.

We now have problems with the tax returns.

My fiance thinks he does not have all documents of the last 3 years.

So we want to request them from IRS.

Now we are confused which form we have to use.

My books says the Form 4506, but that costs $ 57. Correct?

Is the 4506-T enough? That one is for free, right?

Is it better to order them via phone?

What about the W-2 slips?

Do those come with the Form? My books talks about them.

Thanks!!

Hi, Ines.

I believe what you want is the Tax Transcript.

I think the 4506T form is only a request form to request the tax return/transcript.

Tax Transcript should not cost you a penny.

I got my 3 years Tax Transcript from IRS by calling them.

As for W2, I don't think it's required when you have Tax Transcript form.

Hope this helps :)

Not the 4506 T form because it's only a request form. 4506T is not the actual tax return. :) And you don't need this to get tax transcript. I believe 4506T is for third party.

Sorry if I have confused you.

My fiance just mailed me, that he's gonna call IRS right away to request the transcripts.

Again, thank you so much!

I know a little bit about this topic.

Yes, what is needed are tax transcripts and they are free of charge.

For me, the easiest and quickest way to get my transcripts was to go down to my local I.R.S. office where they were given to me on the spot.

(Ordering them on the phone turned out to be a frustrating experience for me because, besides waiting on hold for at least 20 minutes before being able to speak to a human, I failed to answer the I.D. verification questions quickly enough (What was your address in 2006?, How did you file?, etc.) for the I.R.S. to be assured that I was me. Arrrrgghhh!!)

Word of caution!!! If they are asking you to fill out a "4506 tax form" that is different than "tax transcripts." The 4506 form will provide you with "CERTIFIED TAX COPIES". These copies take 60-days to receive from the IRS and yes, they cost money. We went to our interview with only our 2008 copies (as instructed). At the interview we were told that we needed three years of my taxes and three years "CERTIFIED" copies from the co-sponsor. (Here is what makes this crazy!!!) Qualifying is not an issue, I qualified by myself but it was suggest by my lawyer at the time (now fired) to add a co-sponsor, since I was relocating to another state and would be unemployed for a short time. Please learn from what happened to us, we waited 216 days for our interview and on that day, they tell us we need forms that take 60-days to receive (Heartbreaking!!!) Make sure you have the right forms because there is a big difference!
