there shouldn't be any Affidavit of support. don't take it the wrong way, I love my fiancee, I'll do any thing that I can for her.

But for visa process they should ask the beneficiary if he or she can support her/him self for the first few years

undecided on both--specific issue of what about when the non-USC is on a temp-work-visa (ergo, doesn't need "support" from USC spouse)?

The affidavit of support doesn't say you have to support your spouse 100 percent so that they never have to work. The affidavit of support is USCIS's way of making sure that any government means-tested benefits are repaid.

There is a big difference there. If you're worried about someone defrauding you for a GC and then sucking you dry, this is not an affidavit of support issue.

If a person is not able to meet the low threshold for support and has no additional sponsor support he/she should maybe wait awhile. There seems to me no shortage of legal and illegal immigrants around here who simply cannot make ends meet. Many seem to think it is okay to have many children who will certainly be raised in proverty. Their husbands might work hard to support their families but there are just not enough jobs to go around and without an education or the ablility to speak english it does not bode well. So the government has to support them and their children. It has every right to expect minimal ability for legal immigrants to pay their own way.

This is true for both legal and illegal immigrants. I don't understand why people can't wait on this. Some of them seem to not only have no money, they hardly even seem to know each other.

Sorry for getting off topic. ;)
