It is very possible. When i sent my I-751 in July 2009 my status online never changed. It even says this case is not available. Was just surprised when i received my approval letter in the mail 3 days ago.

For us, the on-line status was a bad joke, particularly during the I-751 stage when suddenly, Nebraska shoved the processing dates back two years when our one year extension notice was about to expire. The really bad thing about this is that anyone who works for the USCIS or even ombudsman treats these dates like they were the the laws of god. Took my senator's office to learn that Nebraska was no longer processing I-751's, was moved to California and they should have processed our application some eight months earlier, but had misplaced our file in the move. That was extremely frustrating.

If I look our N-400 processing dates today, and I just did, the USCIS did receive our application and will notify us, but that never changed, and my wife has been a USC for well over a year now.

But not over yet, she petitioned for her unmarried son, when she did, we had a three year wait before her I-130 would even be looked at, today it's an eight year wait. Think they pull numbers out of a hat for this site.

I ordered a $2.20 cable including shipping on a cable from ebay, Thanksgiving day, so far received five e-mails with an order number and tracking number, should be in today. Would be nice if the USCIS would operate that way, but they don't, all government workers, and not even close to the USCIS, even the day after.

Compared to the I-751, every critical to stay here legally, the N-400 went super fast, maybe because there was no panic involved, wife finally got her ten year card and her foreign passport renewed. She didn't want to surrender her green card, because we went through a nightmare to get it and only had it for seven weeks.

This happens all the time. The On-line system is not accurate. Even the INS will tell you that it's rarely updated or accurate. I was never even entered in the system in the first place, which is also something that is very common...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...
