Hi,

I am trying to fill out the application form for Naturalization. I am married to a US citizen which allows me to apply for Naturalization with 3 years of permanent residency. Now, in part 7 it asks about time spent outside the US. It asks to list the amount of days spent outside the US in the last 5 years and then the trips outside the US in the last five years. Now, I arrived here in march 06, got residency in september 06, that is only 3 years from now... I am using they ask this question because if you have spent more than 6 months outside the US you loose your residency, so obviously if we five years back I have spent a total of about 400 and some days outside the US... because I was living at home before coming here obviously. Then it asks to list the trips taken outside the US... so kind of the same question. How have you guys answered this? just counting the time you were home before coming here and adding the trips? or just count the trips you have taken since becoming a resident? and assuming only 3 years apply to us?? Any help would be greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Danielle

Count only from the day you became a PR check your GC where it says "resident since" and start from there. Some people here crossed-out the 5 years and wrote 3 years when they fill-up the form. Read this link. Good luck.
