ok so now its been 30 days since I sent my I751 and my check was cashed.....

Got my Biometrics letter which is in 10 days but no NOA1 as yet.

I was told to call after 30 days of submitting my papers.

So I called USCIS, spoke to 2 people.....

All they said was wait!.

One lady said I need the NOA1 for my ASC appt and she would try to do somethign and transferred me to another man.

He said "it will come"

I asked" will it come in 10 days before my FP'

He says " i dont know..wait and see"

I ask "what if it doesnt come..what do i do?"

he says "Wait and call us 1 day before the FP - Good Luck"

Is this some joke!!!! Its my life and future here and no one can give me a straight answer.

Can some of you kind people please help me out

1) Can I go for finger printing without the NOA1?

2) If I need to make the Info pass appt to get a stamp, can i do it now or should i first call USCIS and get their permission?

3) Did anyone else do FP without the NOA1?

I THINK all you need for FP is the biometrics appointment letter.

You not need USCIS permission to get an infopass appointment. The IO at the appointment will make a decision, right then and there, if you qualify for any extension stamp in your passport.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

1. Yes - you need the biometrics appointment, driver's license and green card. No NOA1 will be needed for this.

2. I beleive you can get the stamp when you go to your biometrics (someone correct me if I am wrong).

3. Yes - I just did my biometrics without NOA1.

Infopass is a good choice. They should be able to give you better info.

I never received an NOA either. You don't need it for your biometrics appointment but you do need something if your green card is due to expire soon. The best thing to do is to make an InfoPass appointment at your local USCIS office ( http://www.uscis.gov = choose 'make an infopass appointment' from the lower left hand side of the page). Bring along your green card and your passport with you to the appointment - they will use your A number to access your file and will put an I-551 stamp in your passport that usually will be good for 6 months to a year - plenty of time in which to receive your new 10 year green card. The I-551 stamp is just like a green card and is recognizable for travel and work eligibility.

Thank you all for taking time off to actually read my post and give me very accurate and clear replies...that makes me feel better now about not getting my NOA1 yet.

My FPrinting is on Dec 10th...will go for it.

My GC expires Jan 30th so I have 2 months and will wait I guess till the end of Dec before I make the InfoPass Appointment...

What do you folks suggest???

I get it now, wait for another month or wait till 1 week before my GC expires.....

It doesn't cost you anything and gives you peace of mind. I'd do it now just to be safe.

Also, if like here in St. Louis, the infopass office is just down the hall from the biometrics office. We visited both on same trip.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

2. I beleive you can get the stamp when you go to your biometrics (someone correct me if I am wrong).

No you cannot get the I-551 stamp at biometrics... biometrics is taken at the Application support Center (ASC) which is a different place than your local USCIS field office.... Some ASC's might be located in the same building as a field office but many more are not

YMMV

You're welcome. :)

I filed in February and my green card was due to expire in May. I made an InfoPass for 3 weeks prior to when my green card was about to expire. I wouldn't try to get an extension until you are closer to the expiry of your green card because it is still valid for now and you may yet receive either the NOA or even the 10 year green card itself before the 2 year one expires. Once you get closer to the time -or if you know you will be travelling out of the country when the green card expires - I would make the InfoPass appointment for then. You do need to prove you need the I-551 stamp to USCIS and you really don't until January 30th.
