I went to the Civil Surgeon last week, and they sent me for bloodwork and vaccinations. They said the two I need are MMR and Tetanus. I saw a copy of the I-693 and I need quite a few more than those two. But, they told me not to worry about it and just to get those two done.

So I went to my primary physician, who took a look at my vaccination record and told me that I already had MMR so I don't need another one. He gave me the TDap.

Now I'm confused because the I-693 says I should have ALL suggested vaccinations up-to-date, and there are a few I don't have (for instance, when I was 15 I only had one round of Hep B, not the full series of 3 along with the flu shot, etc.)

Should I just trust this USCIS doctor? He is the only one in a large area so I'm assuming he's had a lot of experience? I just don't want an incompetent doctor to mess things up for me. On the other hand, I don't want to go back to have MORE vaccinations if I don't need to, ya know?

What do you think?

No, I wouldn't trust him even if he has got a lot of experience. My doctor wanted to give me that stupid HPV vaccine and if I hadn't done my own research, I would have got it despite the fact that I wasn't in an age group that actually needed it. And this was a guy who had been doing immigration medicals for years! (On the other hand, maybe I should be flattered that he thought I was young enough to need it!).

He also didn't give me a new TB test, telling me I didn't need it, yet he later realized he probably should have got one done for me. Luckily, I had had a previous TB test done five years ago when I moved here, so I only *just* managed to get away with it because you can use the results of old tests (which were done no more than five years ago). That was just a lucky fluke, though....if I'd done my medical a few days later, the old TB test would no longer have been valid.

I've included an attachment which will give you a list of vaccinations you need. I don't know what it says about HPV or Zoster but you don't need to get those anymore.

What do you think?

Hey Miranda&John I don't know how old you are but i'm 27 and only needed the Tetanus (TDap) and MMR ones too. The others the doctor signed off as not age appropriate. Though his dumb nurses still asked me if I was going to get Gardasil and flu shots! - so i pointed out to them that the doctor had marked not age appropriate. They were like really you can't get gardasil at 27 - no!!!!

I think Dirtyweebesom's link should help you figure out what you need based on your age  I read the doctor has the right to put not age appropriate, as for whether or not USCIS goes with it is another thing. Though I just had MMR, Tetanus and he marked varicella history for chicken pox and so far so good - no RFE's yet.

Hoping it stays that way

I can relate to you... my "civil surgeon" wrote out this long prescription of shots that I needed.. however I never even saw the dude and dealt with only his Physician's assistant ( I think he only signed the forms, nothing else!) the assistant probably knew Nothing cause I ended up getting about 7 shots of which I later found out were mostly All age inappropriate... through THIS board, lol... so if I was you I would definetely not just accept what he recommends but go with your own research and your own doctor's recommendations and see if he'll change his mind...

Thanks everyone! I see now that the ones I thought I needed are marked "recommended if other risk factor present". I don't have any risk factors so maybe that's what the deal is.
