Here's the situation:

I graduated from college in 2005, so up until that point, I only worked part time because I was in school. Then, in 2005, I went to England to live with my (then fiance, now husband) for six months before I came back and began my current job.

My job now pays $30k/year which is well more than the poverty line for a household of two, and I have my paystubs and a letter from my employer stating my annual salary plus the fact that I'm a perminant employee.

Still, prior to this year, I was making less than 125% of the poverty line. Will they accept my pay stubs, letter from my employer, copy of my union contract, proof that I was in school / in England and thus couldn't make the requirement but will now that I'm "living in the adult world" or will I need a co-sponsor?

redtapeknot,

That will be up to the case officer who is processing the I-485. If they feel comfortable that your current income is sustainable based on the information that you provide then you will not need a cosponsor. If they are not comfortable that your current income is sustainable then you will.

Kezzie,

Not necessarily true. Adequate current income and the sustainability of that income is the critical factor. Past tax returns may address those issues, then again they may not.

If your tax return shows your income as less than the 125% then you will need to find a co-sponsor....

At interview time you can present your info about your earnings and they may allow you to drop the co-sponsor....

Good Luck

Kezzie
