Hi everyone, just thought I would update you on the I-693 saga. I got a called this morning, (I completely forgot about them calling me back when they did some investigation into what I was telling them about not needing a full medical) from Dr. Luce's office in Wausau, WI. The receptionist told me that she had a chance to talk to Dr. Luce and if I want the I-693 only done for vacc. then I need to travel back to where I had the initial medical in Montreal and have them do it. She said any doctor here will have to do a complete medical in order to sign it. I just said, "Well, she's wrong, and if she would just read the instructions that come with the I-693 she would know that." I gave up trying to talk to them. That's 6 doctors in Wisconsin that I have contacted and 6 that said full medical required. I have sent my stuff into Dr. Arnold and hopefully I won't have any problems with his signing it. I am going to make a list of all the doctors I contacted in Wisconsin that wouldn't do it without a medical to send along, not that I think it will help any other then to make myself feel better. Just needed to vent! LOL Thanks.

I'm sure there are some that really are that clueless, they don't read the technical instructions they agreed to when they signed up to be a CS. But I'd bewilling to bet that there are many who know the rules, but they want to do a full medical so they could charge more. They probably expect that the applicant will eventually do the medical.

Wow, that is pretty unbelievable Wis-Can. I called a few places around the Los Angeles area, and two of them gave me that line. Oddly enough, the doctor that was closest to me was the one who was honest about it and told me straight out that it is not required that the other civil surgeons are just trying to milk people for more money. The one thing that the doctor that we went to required was that the immigrant submit the request for the I-693 personally, and sign and pick it up personally.

Unbelievable!! I should have my doctor called up your doctor and teach them a thing or two about being an honest Civil Surgeon! When I called my doctor's office here, the clerk repeatedly asked me if my medical abroad is over the one year mark or not and she told me that I didn't need a new medical if my medical is still within the one year mark. Well, for my case, it has expired but the thing is, they know what they are doing and not trying to "con" me.

Cheers...

Tomorrow there are a couple more that I am going to try that are closer to Milwaukee, I know I didn't spell that right! LOL I'm a little nervous about using the one I am waiting for from Dr. Arnold.

I called 7 offices representing 12 doctors in the Denver metro and none of them would do it! One doctor even quoted me $850 to administer a new medical. I had 2 offices tell me outright they didn't know what I was talking about when I said I-693 and vaccination supplement. Like really? I just couldn't believe that. I think half the problem I had was that I was dealing with the doctors assistant or secretary who didn't know a thing, but they wouldn't ask the doctor or let me speak to the doctor. Very frustrating! I had 3 people promise to call me back and I never received a call back from a single one.

Good luck Wis-can! I got so frustrated I wanted to throw my phone out the window  I eventually gave up and used Dr. Arnold. However, at the interview they didn't even ask for the I-693, so I really did all that work for nothing.

Hey Hugglebuggles, we sent it in without it today, and then Dr.Arnolds envelope came in the mail this afternoon....just my luck. Well I will have it if I get an RFE. I know a couple people on here emailed me and told me they got approved without it. I know some are getting approved and some are not. We are taking a chance. Like I said earlier, we just want the AP as soon as possible as I want to get home to see my dad. My EAD would be nice so that I can start getting some EI. Luckily I sold my properties in Nova Scotia so it gave me a little cash to hold me over. It would just be nice to have a cheque coming in. I see your EAD and AP were processed relatively quickly. Hopefully ours will go this well. Take care.

EAD and AP's are being approved very quickly for a lot of people, some even faster than mine. And really, a lot of people have been approved without the I-693, so I wouldn't worry to much. If you are sent an RFE or end up with an interview, you have it ready to go, just like you said! I wasn't transferred to California, but I was never issued an RFE for it. On the interview letter they list it as a required document, but they never asked to see mine. The interviewer asked me if I had done a new medical and I said no because my old medical was still valid and he just nodded and moved on! But, I think I just got lucky. But good luck with everything! Hopefully you'll get your AP soon :)

The first doctor I contacted via email seemed to understand what I was looking for, and said that, as long as I have proper proof (still have to determine what they deem to be "proper") of my vaccinations, they can transcribe the supplemental form without a full medical for $25.

They're a little out of the way for me, so I'm hoping I manage to find a closer doc who also understands the requirements... but honestly, I think it's ridiculous that we all have to go through this much hassle to determine whether or not their appointed civil surgeons understand and/or are updated on their own regulations.

Hi Sam and Ben, my honey and I were talking about this last night over dinner. It should be manditory for any doctor who signs on to be a cival surgeon to acutally learn and understand the rules and requirements. He thinks they do....they are just trying to make $$ by telling people they need full medicals...people get tired of looking for someone to do what they need that they just give up and have the medical again. I'll keep ya'll posted on to what happens. Take care...ho ho is coming soon!! My first Wisconsin Christmas, I am so excited.

They're already making money by the fact that they are among the only doctors we can actually go to for these (and similar) services.

I wish there was an avenue to readily report doctors who were trying to take advantage of immigrants, as you said this doctor suspects others are knowingly doing.

Good luck, and certainly let us know of any updates.

Enjoy that first Christmas together. :)
