We may need draft if the president keeps sending troops around the world at the current speed and stamina.

It is better to spread it than putting the entire burden on a group of people who volunteered for several reasons.

In my opinion, being for draft is the definition of patriotism. If you are against draft you are unpatriotic.

I am now a US citizen.

My granddad was against the draft as he had 5 tiny children. He avoided being sent to kill Turks but then they drafted him and he was quickly killed in France.

Was he unpatriotic ?

Kind of like the Spanish Inquisition, either accept Jesus as your savior or we will boil you alive in oil.

China a communist country so why aren't we invading them? But instead, we are sending them all of our jobs. Really difficult to figure out what's going on.

Honestly, Nick, you make me laugh sometimes. Thank you.

Patriotism doesn't mean risking your life for the game government is playing. Defeding your country from invasion is one thing, fighting on a foreign soil for the interests of some corporation or government officials is another. While not willing to do the former may indicate lack of patriotism, not willing to the latter indicates...well, inteliigence, common sense and presence of basic instincs like self preservation.

Mandatory draft is an awful thing. On the other hand, professional military members, much like professional LEOs willingly picked a job to risk their life according to order of their superiors. Both military and LEOs also get a lot of benefits for that. Civilians, on the other hand, have no such obligation.

Lost two uncles in WWII, my cousin came back in a bag from VN. Neighbor's wire as are two of my daughter's classmates as my daughter-in-law's cousin are all in Iraq now fighting for democracy. All four are in the Wisconsin NG, and weren't around here when we had severe floods. Most of the WI NG is in Iraq now. Was a bit shocked when Bush was sending kid girls to Iraq that can't even open a pickle jar, but did get seven weeks of MP training in Texas first. Thought Obama was going to bring them back home, maybe he forgot about that.

Can always run for president, can tell those West Point generals where to get off and don't even have to spend a single moment in boot camp.

Saw a TV interview with a British first world war conscripted vet about 20 years ago and they asked him about his training.

He said he had only fired 4 rounds from his rifle before he arrived in France. They put him up against a Prussian guards Division.

He said the whole thing was ridiculous. They used to meet the Germans every night at a stream where they all filled their water bottles. They used to chat about stuff and swap cans of food and cigs and show each other photos of their families until the top Officers found out about it and stopped it.

I say no exemptions for families of politicians, they go first. The Politicians can resign if they don't like it.

Unlikely that we will see a draft any time soon. The military is exceeding it's recruitment numbers. My cousin was supposed to ship to boot camp on Dec. 9, but was told that his date was pushed back due to too many recruits.

Yeah, and it's very difficult to get into the Coast Guard or Air Force right now. They pick and choose.

Funny (not ha ha funny, more sad) how he's now bound to do so, where as I'm not.

True, however the reason is not because of his naturalization status, but because of your gender.

Just ask all of the "natural born" citizens that ended up in Canada during Vietnam. A natural born male is just as "bound" to serve as a naturalized male.

Well, I may as well say something about the gun subject.

My fiance owns guns; pistols, revolvers, rifles and shotguns.

I was really iffy about it when I first heard about it and first saw them.

He eventually took me to the shooting range, because he wants me to know how to use them incase our house gets broken into or the like.

Needless to say, they're not as bad as I thought they were. I learned how to use the pistol, the shotgun and the revolver.

He's a certified instructor for the NRA and knows how to use his guns properly and safely.

He actually bought me a revolver, and it's there just in case.

It's certainly a person to person basis on being comfortable with guns.

I just hope I never have to use mine against a person.

Was he pro-war? If he were and he did not want to join the war effort then he was unpatriotic, otherwise no.

Redneck-NOVA, do you agree?

I see your country is Turkey - if he had joined earlier he could have killed a lot of Turks - patriotic Turks no doubt - does this make a difference ?

Ordinary guys who have 5 little kids and who work as a brick yard carter don't have complex views on politics or overeas adventures. They have other priorities.
