Reschedule Montreal Interview :(

Hi friends, I thought I would post this question on here since you have all helped me so much a few times. About a month ago my fiance and I found out our interview date would be December 7th and since we have been waiting since July we were much more than just a little thrilled. We have everything ready to go (minus my sanity by this point) and we planned for me to move to Northern California mid-January after I spent the holidays with my family.

However, my father suffers from pretty advanced Parkinson's Disease. As of this week he has fallen very ill and will have to have a very dangerous neurological surgery on December 7th. My main priority is being with my family on this day, and my fiance understands this and has been no less than a million percent supportive. Has anybody had to reschedule their interview in Mntl? Typically has the consulate been lenient with this? And if so, how long did it take for another one to be rescheduled? Do they send a new packet 4? I understand that this will set back our process a bit, however when asked to chose between being with my family and my visa, my family must come first although it leaves me with a very heavy heart.

Any answers will be appreciated and thank you so very much in advance.

Charlene

I thought about doing this too but was advised that could delay things even further. Montreal just started scheduling interviews- prior to this people had been waiting since June/July. I am not sure if they are always going to be faster from this point on, or if there will be another long wait period coming up after this mass of interviews.

I know from reading other people's posts that a bunch of people got interviews in April, and then it seemed to slow down drastically after that.

You'll have to email to ask for a re-schedule, and just hope for the best.

I think I'd just go ahead with the interview and then if you have to remain in Canada for your dad, you have 6 months to activate the Visa.

Good luck!

I have heard the rescheduling can delay your interview by more than a couple of months, although, I am not sure about it. However, I am sure that the officers at Montreal will take into account your family emergency. I hope you father's surgery goes well and you can sort the interview rescheduling out.

Good luck and you will be in my prayers !!!

Yes it has been done! Send an email with ur case # in the subject line and state ur case! But as others have stated, it could take awhile to be rescheduled. I belive it was Neiks that did it (others have done as well) and it set her back like 6 months!!

best of luck to u and ur father!.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I'm truly sorry to hear about your father and hope the surgery goes as well as possible.

I realise that appearing to be more focused on yourself than your father is awkward, but have you considered discussing this with your family and your father's doctors and seeing if there is any leeway to the surgery date? If only one day either way, it will still allow you to go ahead without setting your future back months and months.

I used the word appearing because I personally feel that it is not unreasonable, considering the difficulties of the process. If it were a court date, would they change the surgery date? This is a comparative level of flexibility that you're faced with....

Also, just a thought, (and not to sound cold) but I know when I had my surgeries only 1 person was allowed into surgery with me, and then they really limited who could be visiting in the hospital. You might find that your mom and others have it covered and if you could help out AFTER the surgery (cooking meals, running errands) or BEFORE the surgery, they might appreciate that more.

My dad was recently hospitalized for 2 days, and I couldn't even come to see him because they didn't want children in the hospital because of the swine flu . . .

That was here in Florida, but still, you never know.

Hi Charlene,

Sorry to hear about your father...

I have my interview re-scheduled...on your letter that you received with your packet 4 for the interview, they tell you what to do if you need to re-schedule it...the email address and what to write in the subject line...

Of course you could be delay from few months to several months ...but what you have to think too when you will attempt your interview and will get approved ...they could issue your visa in few days...or they can wait, you can keep your passport and send it to them later (when you are ready to move), they will put the visa in and send it back to you (what I would not like to risk)...the visa is valid 6 months...so it`s up to you...do you think you would still be ready to move in January or you would prefer to spend some months with your family...?

The people at the Consulate are understanding ...but if you prefer to keep the date you have if you arrive early you can be out around 9 or 10 am ...

If you decide to re-schedule it make sure that you receive an answer from the Consulate!

I got this problem I couldn`t get in touch with them...they were not getting my email for some reasons...

Hope this help...and that it`s not confusing...english is not my first language...

Good luck to you and your dad

Jo
