A reminder again - don't bait. It is a violation of TOS. And, if anyone feels 'baited' please don't respond; report the post to a moderator and we will address it.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I hope my question to Slim is not perceived as baiting. I don't bait. That is a legitimate question.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

It was perceived as baiting because it was irrelevant to the discussion and introduced in a way that seemed designed to encourage argument. It is also straying from the actual topic about a tragic crime to a discussion of personal beliefs about the use/abuse of firearms.

How is that a bait? Slim has repeatedly stated that guns make a society safer and constantly talks about crime rates in Aus, a country where guns are restricted. So why is this not reflected by the stats?

A bait would be for me to create a post regarding Brazil solely to draw spook in; which I don't do either.

I don't get what people want in such threads...

Both Canada and Australia didn't get to being leaders by simply posting "OMG (F) (F) (F)".

In other words BY, Stay on topic douchebag

Refer to the above.

Seriously, is it that much to ask to stay on topic? Come on, even you're not that stupid.

When I go into a restaurant in Germany, I have no fear of any ambush and yet, there isn't a guy with ashotgun at the door. Same in Ethiopia, by the way. I don't need people with fcuking rifles and other pieces on the streets to feel safe. In fact, I tend to feel much safer when I know that there are less people with guns around me.

Bingo!

I have traveled the world yet the US is the only developed country where I realize I have to (absolute must) be on my toes because so idiot could snap at any moment. And be armed with enough firepower to make terrorist look like boy scouts.

I know. The correlation between proliferation of firearms and homicides committed with them is as clear as it gets. But then, the gun lobby has assumed what must be a comfortable position on the issue.

You mean like your first post here:

Because you made the analogy. You really should have used the standard disclaimer to preface your post. "I'm just making this sh!t up to suit my point of view, but going to hide behind the guise of a personal anecdote".

It's just amazing to me that people from abroad, from countries that have much lower homicide rates, are apparently clueless but the gun toting types here know better.

:ot2:

1:24 p.m.

About six officers in SWAT gear pulled up to Nicole Smith's Tacoma home and four went inside. They were escorted in by a young man who pulled up in a silver Honda.

Smith is Clemmons' wife. Police are seeking her and are looking for her car.

Now they are in Ravenna looking for the dude. From the UW, to the International district to Beacon hill to Ravenna? #######, makes no sense at all.
