No, Boo, I am not joking. When I go to a Starbucks, and the guy has a shotgun slung around his neck and opens the door and says, "Good day, sir", I feel that I will have a nice, safe day. I like that there is someone to deter any type of crime there, and is checking bags for explosive devices as well.

I don't even know how to respond to that. That you are actually advocating the United States begin to copy third world countries.

After all, why learn from developed countries like Germany or Japan that have lower homicide rates. It's the equivalent of going to Bin Laden and asking him about how to improve Human rights.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Now you guys are advocating we start to copy third world countries.

I find that amazing, too. The race to the bottom is on!

I am hoping one day someone will do a thesis on this. I am interested to know where the turning point was. To know how the leader of the developed world ended up the laughing stock of the developed world.

Now, in the Philippines you have a private armed guard/doorman at EVERY coffee shop, fast food place, gas station, hotel lobby etc. THose who have been there know exactly what I am talking about. I feel so much safer there because of it. Maybe such security would have prevented/deterred this ambush attack.

You are joking right? Maybe we should all own M16s like my friend does there.

When I go into a restaurant in Germany, I have no fear of any ambush and yet, there isn't a guy with ashotgun at the door. Same in Ethiopia, by the way. I don't need people with fcuking rifles and other pieces on the streets to feel safe. In fact, I tend to feel much safer when I know that there are less people with guns around me.

Bingo!

I have traveled the world yet the US is the only developed country where I realize I have to (absolute must) be on my toes because so idiot could snap at any moment. And be armed with enough firepower to make terrorist look like boy scouts. I actually felt much safe in the middle east.

I won't even bother comparing it to Singapore, Hong Kong or Japan.

Dude, you are over thinking it. Having an armed rent-a-cop posted at the front door to make a presence and be a deterrent. We already do it at banks and some Gov't buildings. We can just expand the model. It's not about copying anyone. It's about preventing punk-asses from doing these homicidal stunts. Call it the 9/11 effect. Look how procedures and security measures have changed pre and post 9/11, to make an obvious example. ANd I am reluctant to evoke 9/11, 'cause that is not where i want to stray. Just saying that we respond to tragic life events to ensure they dont happen again. You get this, I know. Just chill and be willing to give a little acknowledgment to others' viewpoints once in a while. YOu dont have to shoot down everyone (pun intended). Im concerned about you having a stroke when that forehead vein starts to pop out. (I'm out for now.)

Hey, I am not shooting it down. The United States has a huge problem with guns, worst in the developed world, with Americans being killed hourly.

Saving a life is more important than ideological stances. I simply stated that common sense suggests you learn from the leaders.

There are only a handful of issues I am passionate about: crime, illegal aliens and the cover up of crime disproportionately being carried out by minorities.

Why is it derailed?

The keywords of the OP is: police, guns, murder, America. A discussion on one or more of those is on track.

Americans being killed hourly.

Is someone actually going to sit here and suggests guns have any effect on preventing crime? Reality dictates otherwise.

Actually, where is Slim? Guns are supposed to prevent theft.

What a shame!

People don't even have respect enough for their own parents let alone authority.

Just gets worse everyday.
