If only the police officers had been armed, they could have defended themselves from this horrific gun violence...

as said in another thread, situational awareness plays a key role too. being armed means nothing if one isn't paying attention to what's going on around them.

You don't need to be armed to know what is going on around you, and protect yourself.

yet being armed and not paying attention to what's going on around you is a good way to have your gun taken away from you.

now about your earlier remark - soldiers are killed too, yet they are armed.

Your logic, from your earlier posts, is that being armed makes people safer. Yet this happens despite your bent logic... But keep telling yourself guns make us all safer. Reality not withstanding.

i'd rather have the chance to defend myself than have to depend on 911. whether i'm successful or not doing so is at least in my own hands, and not some faceless 911 operator.

The four officers had decades of experience between them, were well armed, and may have actually gotten off a shot on the perpetrator that hit him. I don't think Joe Smoe and his pocket Smith & Wesson would do much if any better in the same or similar circumstances.

Sad truth is, guns primary purpose is for killing. Guns do this very well.

They are not safe, nor is anyone truly safer by so many having guns. Clearly this moron was not deterred by the officers he shot being armed, nor was he deterred by the fact someone else in or around the coffee shop might be armed.

experience counts for nothing if one isn't situationally aware and becomes complacent. the badge, uniform, and gun has very little bearing on someone intending to ambush you. cops have to stay on their toes all the time.

and yes, that about being situationally aware and not becoming complacent has bearing on someone with a cch. otherwise, someone could take their gun away from them. and that happens to cops too.

as for what guns do - yes, they can kill. and yes, they can also deter a criminal without a shot being fired. most only focus on the first part of what they can do.

it's your right to have one, but if you don't want to, no one will make you get one. i on the other hand have issue with people's concept that guns are not a right, that i should not have one if i so chose.

If only the gunman didn't have access to a gun, this never would've happened. While we're at it, we should probably make shooting people illegal and also shooting cops illegal.

We may even want to consider making coffee illegal.

That's one of the few things that would never fly in WA state. ;)

Chicka! How's You's?

Keepin' on. :) Busy as always. Had to come set the record straight on this coffee issue. ;)

An armed police force isn't a deterrent to crime? Courts and prisons haven't deterred all crime either so they, too, must go.

Ready's armed solely with wits and harsh language, An empty holster all the way.

This just in...

The man sought in the deadly ambush had been released from prison on a commutation of sentence ...

Lets see how many here say the governor in that state was a Liberal.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The police force being armed, and the average guy on the street being armed are hardly one and the same.

Never seizes to amaze me that every gun toting Charles erroneously assumes they would pull out their gun and kill anyone who tries to rob them. Wrong! By the time you even think of getting your gun out, if they're as smart and fast as me, they would already have a barrel at your head and your spouse's head ready to fire.

Moral of the story, ensure the bad guys don't have guns. This John Wayne / Dirty Harry world is in the movies.

Not surprised with that response. Slim = gross logic fail.

I'll make it easy. Find me where four Australian cops have been shot dead in one week; in the past 100 years.
