attached is a pic of the table with my wife and a chinese business partner. since the pic i have made benches and a 4 cabinet sideboard to match, and painted the dining room.

You used veneer plywood for the tabletop?

the top is a 3/4" veneer board glued to a 3/4" underlayment board. the rest of the table is solid oak. the mission details are mortised and the end panels are joined by a tredle board that is pierced by a center leg. the top can be removed from the 5 leg base by pulling some 3/8" lag bolts.

the underside of the table is cross framed and has pockets to hold the induction cooktops. when not in use they can be stored under the top and flush panels dropped into their places. this table weighs somewhere between 200 and 250 pounds, so is not something you want to bump into the corner of in the dark on your way to the fridge.

i was thinking of bolting a 60 pound blacksmith's vise to one corner for general gunsmithing and forging use, but the wife didn't approve.

Yeah but at least you have your deer mount prominently displayed. Mine's still at my stepdad's house because my wife said, "you can put zis deer on za wall when you buy for me house. Not in our sh!tty apartment, only house. And definitely not where people will be see, only in your room." - So I get my own room?

buddy, it's a question of whether she gets a room.

li made me repaint the dining room when i did the outside of the house, so things are moved around a bit. i shot that deer when i was 15, and it's hanging on the opposite wall now with a 15" pronghorn. she doesn't mind the animals, in general. i have pheasants, an owl, a turkey fan, a squirrel. the only one she can't stand is the shoulder mount of the black boar. she makes me keep that one in the gun room.

I don't think my wife would mind the animals either... if she had a house!

Hmmm. I build a lot of furniture but never used veneer plywood for a tabletop, too thin. It will get nicked up and you will be unable to sand it out. I guess to each his own, but tabletops is one of the things I use glued up solids for (nothing wrong with a mission or breadboard type edging) I use veneers for cabinets and such where the surfaces are not subject to such direct abuse as tabletops. Anything I would consider bolting a vise to would likely be made of CDX plywood or formica laminate if fancy. I guess I am with your wife on that one. :)
