hELLO - AM A us CITIZEN AND my mother recently became permanent resident. She does not have an health insurance. She does not work and is my dependant. What are my options? Please advise. Thanks. She is not yet 65 - so medicare will not work I guess..

9/19/2008 - Mailed I-129F by USPS Priority

9/22 - Mail reached USCIS - CSC

9/23 - Check Cashed

9/23 - NOA1 Notice Date (now wait and pray that NOA2 should come soon!!)

9/27 - NOA1 received by mail

9/29 - Touched (probably to correct typos)

9/30 - Touched

1/14/2009 - NOA2 approved

1/20 - NOA2 hard copy received

1/22 - NVC received petition

1/26 - NVC sent petition to Embassy

1/29 - Received NVC Hard copy

1/30 - Embassy received petition

2/3 - Received P3 from Embassy

2/3 - P3 sent by Courier from India

2/10 - Confirmed that P3 is in embassy's system (called embassy, DOS)

2/23 - Called DOS - Got interview date verbally

3/9 - Medicals Completed

3/31 - Interview Successful

4/3 - Received Visa

4/20 - Arrival

Low cost and health insurance do not go together. Depends how old your mother is. Premium will also depend on how much of a deductible you are willing to take and what sort of cover you want. As you mentioned medicare I'm guessing you mother is in her late 50s or early 60s, if so $350 a month is cheap.

Do a Google search for heath care/insurance providers for your State. This is one of those things which is more State specific, ie Blue Cross/Blue Shield in one State might offer different plans and premiums than Blue Cross/ Blue Shield in other States.

Always remember, you get what you pay for. Insurance is something you cannot save on especially if you need to see the doctor quite frequently or have a lot of prescriptions. My mother in law has Blue Cross Blue Shield Traditional and she is 74. Before she moved down to NC, she had Blue Care Network or something similar. She doesn't pay anything since she's a GM retiree but then it covers all her office visits and most prescriptions. I cannot imagine if she doesn't have insurance. She's diabetic, she takes like 9 different pills each day, she has heart problems and I can't remember what other stuff...

Choose wisely.. Good luck.
