Look at reviews and ratings of systems. Also check ign.com for ratings of games you'd like to get. Sometimes the newer games aren't that much better than older versions of games that were ripped off for knockoffs.

I spent a lot of time playing games and they do take time away from other pursuits so I'd be more harsh on my kid about too much time on games.

There can be only one ultimate gaming machine.. the PC of course! but that's just my preference. I've always found it easier to shoot people in games with a mouse than struggling with a controller  Although the 360 and PS3 do cost quite a bit less than a decent gaming PC.

word. I'm a PC gamer.

FWIW.... 360 is better for online gaming

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Live on the 360 kicks..

I am waiting for the new ATI 5970 to be released.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

We have an Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Wii. The Wii is more for kids games, is not very powerful and you can only add a limited amount of memory via an SD card - it is loads of fun though, and I often play with my 9-year old daughter.

The Xbox is by far more fun to play with my husband. It will play DVD's, and you can subscribe to Netflix through it and watch movies on demand streamed through to your T.V.

One caution, however, for the Xbox, they are unreliable - google "Red Ring of Death" and you'll know what I'm talking about. Our first one failed after owning it for 100 days - our second one experienced the red ring of death, but after unplugging it and letting it sit for a day or so, we plugged it back in and have not had a problem since - but I'm not holding my breath, they're known for this problem...

When hubby gets back from the U.K., we'll get a PS3 - but - and these are hubby's words, not mine, so take it for what it's worth - there are not as a wide variety of games for PS3 - love the fact that it's also a blue-ray disc player though!

So, they each have their pros and cons - but I'll tell you - when you get that red ring of death on the Xbox 360 it can be one of the most irritating things in the world - I know of a couple of people who bought two - one to use, and one as a backup for when the first one fails...

thats pretty much why i said dont purchase the black one we had it red ringed ended up purchasing cheap white one slapped a hard drive on it no problems and kicking butt on modern warfare 2 hahaha and much much cheaper with the same abilities as that expensive black one

just my opinion

I bought my granddaughters the Wii for Christmas last year and while we were there it was the adults playing it. I hope they got tired of it so the girls could play it.

Wow, now you have me leaning back to the PS3! I am so confused

I read some articles about the Xbox failure rates, ugh!

Some corrections to some of the things others have said.

The PS3 slim - the new version - can play PS1 games but not PS2 games. :(

PS3 now has netflix! -- Ya!!

PS3 has a blu-ray drive that can also play DVD's. The PS3 will up-scale DVD movies if you have a HDTV, and it does a really nice job.

360 does have a higher rate of failure. They have gotten better in the last year, but still...

Wii is the choice if you have younger children and want them jumping around and enjoy themselves. If the players are older than 13 I would advise 360 or PS3

My recommendation is to get both!

There's alot of good games for each. I love Halo 3! Heck, I'd make love to my xbox but my wife will kill me. Also, PS3 has a lot of good inventory such as Metal Gear Solid. I'd also make love to it but my wife will kill me too.

Anyway, you'll like either one. Don't become one of those fan boy creeps who says one is better than the other.
