Does anyone have recommendations of what game box to buy. I don't know anything about them or what is required to hook up or anything. We briefly looked at PS3 and Xbox360 but don't have a clue of what to get.

Thanks

There can be only one ultimate gaming machine.. the PC of course! but that's just my preference. I've always found it easier to shoot people in games with a mouse than struggling with a controller  Although the 360 and PS3 do cost quite a bit less than a decent gaming PC.

You need to know what games you want to play. Which system has the games you like?

Do you want to play with family and friends online? What game systems do they have? I work with this guy who got a PS3 for Christmas (that's what he asked for) as it was what he felt was the best system...then he went out and got an Xbox because that's what all his friends play - now his poor wife is always like, "Did I get the right system? I thought you wanted the PS3? Why are you playing the Xbox??"

If you are a serious gamer that's also into HD entertainment get the PS3 otherwise unless your a Halo nut think about upgrading or buying a PC. You'll find that the tech curve on PC's is flattening so a machine today will still be pretty good 3 years down the road. I can help with specs if you like depending on your needs.

If your into casual gaming then maybe get a Wii but realize that both the PS3 and Xbox are entering the motion control arena.

And if your against clutter around your TV get the PS3...its the only box you'll ever need for all things.

360 FTW!!! Seriously though, it has a wider range of games and is just.... the best fun. lol.. I know way more folk with 360s than PS3s. I wouldn't bother with the Wii unless you're buying for cross-generational (toddler to gramps) because it's a lot more ..physically interactive.

The co-op and online multiplayer gaming on the 360 is wicked fun and very reasonable subscription wise.

p.s. They're referred to as consoles, not boxes ;)

I got my granddaughters the Wii last year but the adults immediately took it over. My other daughter just got an Xbox360. I saw the PS3 at Game Stop yesterday and it looked really good but everyone is saying there are fewer games for the PS3 than for Xbox. Tough decision  I have been playing Mafia Wars on Facebook and like it a lot so something like that would be nice. Maybe I can beat my granddaughters......naw....I am sure they will learn it quickly and I will loose when I go visit.

p.s. They're referred to as consoles, not boxes ;)

Shows you how much I know about it. Technology is leaving me behind

Pong ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbs::thumbs:

LOL LOL

P.s.: Yes, it's true that there are fewer PS3 games than XBox...and the little detail that you cannot play PS & PS2 games on it, but I still prefer it all the way...

In the early 80's there were fewer CD's too...It was either tapes or vinyl ...Blue Ray is next big thing in my opinion. ;-)

I hear good things about the PS3. I think it really depends on what games you want to play. GT5 on the PS3 with the Logitech G25 is supposed to be really good. Mind you, it's no Pole Position but still...

Im not a big gamer myself but I do know a little about the systems/consoles/boxes(lol). If you are wanting to play online I would suggest you get the xbox360, they have a huge online community. I hear that the game play and graphics tend to be better with playstation3 but like many have said here xbox360 has a better selection of games. Now that I got that out of the way I would like to say that if you are happy with mafia wars then you could probably buy any system and be very very very happy, original Nintendo might be right up your alley. :P

I had my 80's Deja Vu moment for the day....

Anyway, I played GT5 on it and it was only ok. Someone mentioned about playing online and yes, you can do that with PS3. I personally don't play it online (used to a lot with my old PS2).
