when you say clean install, you mean, after i get done doing these virus scans, just download from the university website...in safe mode?

No. don't even both with the virus. Just download the software in safemode and burn it on a dvd. Then perform a clean install, where you basically format your hard drive.

yep. i'm online right now, but don't know if it is a good idea as McAfee is not working...

Try the Malwarebytes. It is good for the nasty stuff. Webroot and McAfee aren't so hot. If you ever feel like reading up on all of this stuff, I'll give you a couple of good links to check out.

Try the Malwarebytes. It is good for the nasty stuff. Webroot and McAfee aren't so hot. If you ever feel like reading up on all of this stuff, I'll give you a couple of good links to check out.

It is a good idea to use a few anti malware tools. An on demand scanner like Malwarebytes and Superantispyware along with real time protection like Norton Internet Security or one of the other top rated suites.

Notebookreview.com is a good site for info on most computer topics. It's not super geek oriented and most of the members are quite helpful. Here is a link to a specific thread on the best free AV, anti-malware software.

Clean install of windows 7 is the way to go. Especially if you get it for free from school.
