In an American city where Muslims are large in number, yes the government should be able to celebrate along with the people. The government is supposed to be there for we the people. The government is not supposed to be disconnected from the people.

Nothing wrong with a government leader or building in such a city celebrating Ramadan. Now, if the city only endorsed Muslims and rejected all other religions, yes then this would be a problem, as per the United States Constitution and the Constitution of most other first world countries.

You hit the nail on the head!

One would expect the "peoples puplic places" to reflect the people there.

Seems like those same atheists travel from state to state, city to city, even in the unknown state of Wisconsin.

Our city owned a camp ground south side of town that had a statue with the words, "The Great Philosopher" engraved on the base. These atheists insisted that was a statue of some guy by the name of Jesus, although no one really knows what Jesus looks like, but definitely an historic figure. After a lawsuit, the city sold just that land the to a group of private citizens and we put a sign on it stating this was private property. Not enough for the aesthetics, we ended up buying the entire park, but couldn't handle the camping end of it, so closed that down.

These atheists seem to have lots of money to hire the very best attorneys and to file lawsuits. But I really don't have the slightest idea what their motive is.

IN many cases, these people are lawyers so the cost is nothing compared to what a city /school must pay to defend it's self, this is why they win so often.

At least enjoy the secular aspect of Christmas, geez!

Should we start to allow all religions to put up displays? Yes! that would be awesome

While I'm sure it won't sway opinions, I thought y'all might be interested in the back story on this issue which actually started with holiday season 2008.

The whole matter boils down to not everyone being able to share the sandbox with their toys, so the State decided only they get to play in the sandbox. *shrug*

God is an Atheist.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Danno, you fail to understand just how complex 'religion' can be, even within allegedly the same 'faiths.' So if you start putting up the accouterments of one faith at your local government office, you then need to reflect the wide variety of belief systems and faiths, and recognize some are offended by the symbols of one faith or another, and you wind up with something that is satisfactory for none.

If you want to practice whatever faith moves you, do so in your own yard, and in your own home. Your beliefs likely conflict even with others of similar faith.

IF why you say is true.... that even those of the same basic faith cannot agree,...... why is it we never had these problems in the past?

I certainly understand there needs to be order and limits, but truthfully, most religious folks and groups I know respect each others equal rights.

It's the Atheist who seem to cause 90% of the disagreement on these issues.

President Bush celebrating Ramadan for the first time in the White House (Oct. 18, 2005).

U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, a Muslim, taking his oath of office upon a Quran (2007).

Presidential candidate Obama reciting Muslim prayers in Arabic, saying it is "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset" (New York Times, Feb. 27, 2007).

U.S. Speaker Nancy Pelosi putting on Muslim hijab veil during a trip to Syria (April 2007).

President Bush appointing a Muslim, Zalmay Khalilzad, to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations (April 17, 2007).

President Bush removing his shoes and visiting a Mosque a second time (July 27, 2007).

U.S. First Lady Laura Bush putting on Muslim hijab veil during trip to Persian Gulf (Oct. 29, 2007, Jerusalem Post).

Apples and oranges. None of that is on public display day and nite for weeks due to taxpayer dollars. When you see Eid displays on your Capitol steps, plz let me know.

I'll bet you got this sh!t from a Muslim hating website that preaches how Muslims shouldn't be part of America at all. Shame on you, Nagi.

Except for RWN's, most Americans only give Christianity lip service while whoring around and drinking too much. They're only big on it at the end of the year.

My wife's cousin and her family live in Seattle, WA. They will have Christmas like they did last year. Nobody is trying to take that away from them.

And here in Chicago there are several public displays of Christmas as well as other religious holidays throughout the year. No big deal, and no need for more hysterics about them atheists while the same hystericals try to impose religious morality upon the entire population. That's not just hysterical... its hypocritical.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Actually, no I didn't. Shame on YOU for falsely accusing me. Why are you so angry?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Ok, then sorry for accusing you of something you didn't do, but it reads that way. I am pissed off, yes. Not sure why.

It might have come from here, which also includes the following quote, similar to a question she asked recently in the MENA forum:

What are moderate Muslims, who believe the world will submit to Allah later, supposed to think when they see unprecedented acts of acceptance of Islam right now?
