I won't bother adding UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as these figures are even worse. Furthermore, these figures demonstrate that no matter how you cut it, gun control works.

It sure does! Just ask Hitler, Stalin, Mao, etc.

(Standing by for Booyah!'s reply of - "well, you can't argue with the statistics. There are very few gun-related homicides in these countries." And he's right. There are. But dig a little deeper and find out how many homicides by knife and/or other objects, fists, etc. The homicides still happen, they just don't happen by firearm. And just when the statistics start to go down....... GENOCIDE!!!! Almost always flawed-numbers on that stuff, but I think we can all agree there were probably more people killed around WWII timeframe than any other time in recent history. Why? Effective gun control!)

I already 'dug a little deeper' and illustrated the overall homicide rates above. China and India (combined) have lower overall homicide rates than the US.

It's absolutely ridiculous that you are trying to justify guns because others kill using knifes too. Better yet, using WWII and Mao.

Talk about straw man arguments.

Edited by Booyah!

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

They're your facts and figures. China and India combined provided three years of data on overall homicide rates. That's hardly conclusive especially since one is a communist country that controls the flow of information coming out and the other is third-world in most regions.

And no guns because knives is perfectly legitimate. Do you think Mao would've been able to kill all those folks if they would've been armed like the military? How bout Hitler?

Why didn't Hitler invade Switzerland, I mean, it was right next door!

Ah slim, I give you credit for the creativity.

Also what's a straw man argument?

The only straw man I know is Bloomburg.

You like that Hitler/Switzerland thing though? Funny how the biggest baddest army in the whole world didn't invade it's tiny neighbor next door. Maybe they had no Jews, gays, Jehovah's Witnesses there... probably had no money either. I don't know. Anyway, maybe you've heard of Adm. Yamamoto? You should do a quick Google search and see what he told the emporer when asked, "Why don't we invade the mainland USA?"

bloom what?

A straw man is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue.

You are getting more ridiculous as you type. You think a gun is going to protect you against a ballistic missile?

I guess once economic prosperity leaves a region, you are left with 'interesting' ideas and conspiracies.

Bloomburg. A common misspelling of the mayor of New York City's name. He's the guy who made straw purchases of firearms all throughout the U.S. but yet advocates the banning of firearms and "closing the gun show loophole" whatever that means.

Who's been introducing irrelevant topics? If 4 people are murdered by a criminal who used a gun, typically, gun control and straw men come up.

You are getting more ridiculous as you type. You think a gun is going to protect you against a ballistic missile?

I do. If 80,000,000 men with rifles decide to take a boat ride or a plane trip, they very easily stop ballistic missiles from being fired by a country with over 3 BILLION people - of which, only about a million are armed.

I guess once economic prosperity leaves a region, you are left with 'interesting' ideas and conspiracies.

Kind of. Interesting ideas, sure. But conspiracies? I thought we were using fact-based stereotypes here.

Probably back from hunting deer right?

Close, but no cigar.

Since I moved into a smaller place I traded my truck for a Jeep. I was hunting pheasants today, not deer.

Here is a bashing death in Australia. The guy is still as dead as if he'd been shot, but he probably suffered a bit more. But at least it was only one death.

http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21...from=public_rss

POLICE investigating the death of a Bunbury man have charged the father, mother and son of the one family with murder.

Bunbury police were investigating the death of a 23-year-old man after he was allegedly bashed outside his home in Bunbury early this morning.

Major Crime detectives are probing the death, which happened in Morrissey St in suburban Glen Iris just after midnight.

The circumstances of the death are not yet known.

Today, forensic officers combed the street in their search for evidence.

Police have not confirmed if anyone has been charged over the attack.

Actually, what the story makes clear is that everyone invited to that family Thanksgiving party should have come fully strapped, ready to shoot this bastards head clean off as soon as he pulled his piece... :innocent: er...

Well, obviously the 6-year-old couldn't have been strapped, but most everyone else could've. So could most of the people at Virginia Tech that day. Or the people on the plane(s). It only takes ONE armed person to stop a crime.

(And I know you're saying, "yeah, but it only took ONE armed crazy person to do the crime." And you're right. That's all it took. So... if an armed crazy person comes to your Thanksgiving dinner..... what are you going to do?)

Mercifully there was no gun play at our Thanksgiving party! But had there been any, I would have preferred a police officer to have been the armed individual stopping the violence.

And since guns are so wonderful, making the world so safe, why shouldn't a six year old be armed?

So what would you have been doing while awaiting the kind officer's arrival? (That's also assuming someone was able to call 9-1-1) Passing the gravy? Or watching your 6-year-old daughter get murdered?

 Didn't realize anyone said Australia has no murders. I know I certianly did not. Then again you have a knack for putting words into people's mouths. Or is having a constant decline and one of the lowest rates in the world not good enough for your standards?

How have I put words into anyone's mouths in any of these threads? Please, provide links.

Having a constant decline in firearms-related homicides and one of the lowest rates in the world is NOT good enough for me because the overall rate of homicides DID NOT decline. I may not die by gun in AUS, but I still have just as much a chance to die. I also just gave up my right to defend myself with a gun. Swell.

I was thinking a surface to air missile. What's wrong with having those?

I believe we should have surface to air missiles. "Shall not be infringed" doesn't spell out anywhere that it should be limited to "shall possess only what's deemed acceptable right now." When you look at the true spirit of the 2nd Amendment, back when it was written, each community had their own training band and many had artillery (which would've been the surface to air missile of the day). If people wouldn't have given up their Rights between then and now, who knows what we'd have in our community!
