Well I am not talking about name calling. I am talking about excessive, ongoing personal attacks. They have been getting worse by any measure. Making fun of someones country in a serious a malicious way is not "cool". VJ is a Family Based Immigration website with people from around the world. People can gave different opinions and views but attacking another persons beliefs or country just to make them feel bad is wrong. You can kid and joke, but when it is done to be vindictive it crosses a line. i.e. joking is cool but vindictive personal attacks on a persons beliefs, country, "looks", etc is not.

Yeah, I get it but the moderation needs to be consistent or not done at all in my opinion. Currently this is selectively targeted for obvious reasons and people get a very unclear picture as what is an isn't acceptable and the arguments get skewed. For example we have BY who believes that only if he gets suspended has what he said been racist. That's absurd.

There are clearly more than a handful of posters who have a huge problem with people having opposing views. You're in a freagin immigration forum yet crying murder that someone talks about their country.

It's one thing if I had ridiculed people here and boasted that I am so much better than them 24/7. Totally something else when simply pointing out things that others do better, that could improve your quality of life, and being ambushed for it. I always thought smoke was smarter (better) than that but I guess I was wrong.

It's tell you thing, it's certainly a great example of America for new immigrants.

Seems Slim still doesn't understand what respect means. Surprised I am not. As for the rest, Switzerland Yes, every swiss adult carries a gun at all times, they police themselves, it's a well known fact.

I looked up respect in the dictionary just to be sure. Seems we're using two different meanings of the word. I'm using the "act of giving specific attention" definition and you're using the "high or special regard" definition. What most people don't understand is you don't have to hold an idiot with a gun in high regard... but you should pay him specific attention.

Nonetheless, lets compare the number of people that saved the day in self-defense to the number of people murdered or permanently disabled. Lets also add the suicide factor in.

While you're at it, why not factor in the number of criminals that are breaking the law when they kill someone. Murder is already illegal in most places. Possession of firearms by individuals under disability is already illegal in most places... but for some reason, these criminals keep breaking the law. Why is that? We should probably make that illegal. Yes, I'm going on record right now. Breaking the law should be illegal. It is in Australia, it should be here too!

It's interesting that you guys avoid answering why I should not be able to buy or even build a ballistic missile to store in my house. Or even an RPG.

I've answered that repeatedly and I'm all for it! However, it is illegal for you to do so and that's why most Americans don't do it. As to why the criminals don't do it? Well, the ballistic missile isn't cost-effective for their purposes and the RPGs are pretty hard to get. Usually when they try to get them, they get caught by the feds and end up doing real time, kind of like they're supposed to for every crime.

If you wanna go down this route though, I'll bite. I'm a firm believer that every neighborhood should have a crew-served weapon. My block has the machine gun, yours has the mortars, a few blocks over they have some air defense arty, etc. Taken as a whole, our city should be able to defend itself. Also, if everyone in the city is accountable for their own actions and responsible enough to man crew-served weapons, they should also be accountable enough to go to work, pay taxes, stay out of trouble... right? We should also be able to hold each other accountable and help each other out. I know those concepts sound as foreign in modern-day America as having crew-served weapons on our porch, but back when the 2nd Amendment was written, all of those things applied. All of them!

And I would hold any bet that any such individual couldn't do half the damage if he didn't have a gun. You can shoot and kill 4 people in little time but try and stab 4 people to death with an entire family around. Not likely to happen. That's all I'm saying.
