How many less homicides per years since gun restriction?

Well my good NE buddy, using a site you linked.

The homicide rate prior to the gun buy back in 1995 was 1.8. Obviously any change in law takes a number of years to take effect.

As of 2008 the homicide rate has been reduced to 1.2

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Really the bottom line is; some people and some countries are willing to trade certain freedoms for a promise of safety.

Q:Booya, do you currently own or have access to any firearms, here or back home?

Some? How about the majority of first world countries. So either they are stupid or those who support guns are stupid. Just say it and we will be done with it. We are backwards and want need to have guns.

International examples are of no use here anyway as people clearly neither care nor know how to interpret others being better or smarter. It's why even the poorest of the poor think they are doing well for themselves.

Yes I own a few hand guns here. Why? because I could. Hence why I am first to say that it's stupid to be able to own what I own.

So you are saying that you are stupid for owning them? Now I'm confused. If they didn't know better, someone might think you were a hypocrite.

Not really, I bought them initially because I could. However, after being here for a while and seeing murder after murder on the local news alone, l realized just how stupid it is to allow people to own high powered guns.

So you don't practice what you feel is right? You own a gun because you have the liberty to do so here, yet you criticize the country for allowing you to do so? Yea, that makes sense.

Us educated folk tend to let the facts guide our views rather than our views guide the facts. As such, and unlike yourself, I don't take (biased) ideological stances on issues. When I first moved here I 110% supported guns. There are many posts on here where I argued against the restriction of guns. However, as more and more information was presented, as I saw more and more of what is going on here, I realized that guns are a huge issue here. Hence, the US having one of the highest, if not the worst, homicide rate in the developed world.

Much like children who don't know how to handle something responsibly, you need to take it away from them. There are many responsible gun owners, however, there are also the others who shot people in the head because a dog approached them. Therefore, you take guns away so that low life knuckle dragging Neanderthal, scum of the earth savage types, that have returned to their innate roots, don't have this avenue to kill. It's the same deal with extra security checks at airports.

So that's it, you're educated! Sell your guns. Stand up for what you believe in. Maybe people would have some respect for you then. And do the simple multiplication and tell me the overall homicide reduction in Australia. Which reduction figure do you want to use, .32? .37? An average over the years since restriction? Then tell me how many less murders there are per year. We both know why you refuse to answer this question. A reduction of 1 is significant if it was you or loved one that did not get killed. But taking away over 650,000 guns and the murder rate went down buy 65-75 people per year is hardly a convincing argument to support gun restriction. It is insignificant, unless you were one of those affected.

If guns are so bad, Booyah!, then why haven't yours been used in the commission of any crimes?

Funny thing is, I have been around people with guns my whole life and I can't even recall one criminal act or even a "drunk Jack-a$$" moment with guns involved (well maybe one).

I think the stats show the gross amount of gun violence is in a demographic you can watch on TV every night during the local news hour.

With the huge amount of guns we have in this country, this small demographic of criminals would have a supply of weapons for decades to come if guns were, -by and large- outlawed.

If this criminal element (and you know who they are) were to be armed... and no one else was, Just imagine the results of that.

------------

It's not a question of this country or that, being stupid about Gun laws, we are different countries with different situations and different values.

Speaking of knife attacks. Surprise surprise just saw today's news.

Police to have power to strip-search at random

TOM REILLY

November 29, 2009

POLICE will soon have sweeping powers to search people at random, including strip-search, even if there is no reasonable suspicion those targeted have done anything wrong.

'We are putting the laws in place and taking a pre-emptive strike; we just won't tolerate a knife culture in Victoria.''

Proposed new powers

■ Police can search anybody in a ''designated area'' even if officers do not have any reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing by that person.

■ Any area where there has been an incident of violence involving a weapon in the past year can be deemed a designated area; as can any place where police suspect there may be trouble; or any major event precinct.

■ There are no limits on the size of a designated area, although it can only last 12 hours.

■ A new offence of disorderly conduct has been created.

■ Police will get power to fine people for the offences of drunk and disorderly, disorderly conduct and for being drunk.

■ Officers can demand somebody ''move on'' if they believe they may be going to commit a breach of the peace.

So you are saying that you are stupid for owning them? Now I'm confused. If they didn't know better, someone might think you were a hypocrite.

Go to George Washington's house and have a look for yourself. Your bud natty asked the same question.

So that's progress? Giving the police power to strip-search anyone they desire?
