Here is the Aussie info:

In March 2000, WorldNetDaily reported that since Australia's widespread gun ban, violent crime had increased in the country. WND reported that, although lawmakers responsible for passing the ban promised a safer country, the nation's crime statistics tell a different story. Countrywide, homicides are up 3.2 percent. Assaults are up 8.6 percent. Armed robberies have climbed nearly 45 percent. In the Australian state of Victoria, gun homicides have climbed 300 percent. In the 25 years before the gun bans, crime in Australia had been dropping steadily. There has been a reported "dramatic increase" in home burglaries and assaults on the elderly.

Yeah, I try to stick to more "fact-based" sites like Wiki when arguing with the lefties.

Then again, I don't even know if I would call Booyah! a lefty since he's sportin that big ol' patriotic American dude on his avatar. Even though he's talking up AUS all the time, it seems like he really loves the U.S. Lefties don't really love the U.S., do they?

First, Hayward is NOT San Francisco, and it's most decidedly NOT urban. It's a medium size suburban community between Oakland (very urban) and Fremont (very suburban).

Second, in terms of the murder rate, Hayward is probably typical of any community this size anywhere else in the US. The homicide rate is 6 per 100,000. San Francisco is 14 per 100,000, and Oakland is 30. Most murders happen for the same reasons as anywhere else - relationships gone very wrong, drug deals gone bad, gang violence (a growing problem, but not nearly as bad as Oakland). One stranger killing another over some choice words exchanged is very VERY unusual.

The city held a vigil for the victim yesterday at the strip mall where the murder occurred. The city is in shock because, even in the bad neighborhoods (which aren't really very bad) , people felt relatively safe walking down the street. I've been to that particular strip mall many times, and never felt unsafe or unwelcome. However, the neighborhood has a growing problem with drugs and gangs. It's not huge, and largely not even visible, but it's there.

Abolishing guns will never work in the US. There are simply too many of them. All of the whining and complaining is not going to change this fact. When the country was founded, the overwhelming majority of people owned guns, and the newly formed government wasn't about to tell people they had to give them up. First, nobody would have complied - many needed their guns to survive, as much of the country was still wilderness. Second, the fledgling government was declaring war on England - without a significant standing army they were heavily dependent on armed militias to fight the war, and the militia were expected to furnish their own arms because the government didn't have a stockpile of weapons to issue them. Third, it was the considered opinion of the founding fathers that an armed population was a virtual guaranty against the sort of tyranny they believed led them to the point of revolution. Democracy was an experiment that had the potential to go very wrong, and an armed citizenry was insurance that any mess could be undone, and the nation taken back from a tyrannical government.

It was also the firm belief of the founding fathers that rights belong to the individual - not to the public at large. When a right is abused, then the rights of individual abuser are revoked, and not the rights of everyone in an effort to prevent future abuse. When someone commits a felony in the US, they lose the right to own a gun. However, the government should never revoke the rights of everyone because of a few who would abuse those rights. That would be exactly the sort of tyrannical government that our forefathers sought to insure against.

No lefty here dude. As conservative as it gets. Just an independent common sense thinker.

As with anything he posts, all of Spooks sites are nonsense based on rhetorical opinion. Aka Fail. There is a reason why both conservative and now left wing government in Aus introduced and upheld the high powered gun ban. There is a reason why the majority of other first world countries do the same. It's not a sheer coincidence that they also have extremely low homicide rates. Yes even using box cutters, kitchen knives, azaleas, etc.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Norlane man shot over barking dog

January 26th, 2008

Police swarmed on Thrush St early yesterday and took a man into custody.

A NORLANE man was shot yesterday morning after a dispute over a barking dog.

Kevin McDonald, 37, was shot in the stomach in the incident, which happened in Thrush St about 6am.

Police said his injuries were serious but not life-threatening and he was in Geelong Hospital in a stable condition yesterday afternoon.

Heavily-armed police from the Special Operations Group swarmed the street and used a public address system to coax the 60-year-old shooting suspect from his Thrush St home.

Standing watching the police was Mr McDonald's blood-spattered friend Paul Hunt, who told the Geelong Advertiser he watched the father-of-one get shot and desperately tried to stop the bleeding.

Mr Hunt said the pair had spent the previous night drinking at another friend's house in Robin Ave and were walking home up Thrush St when the drama unfolded.

``He got shot over rubbish. It was a dog barking,'' Mr Hunt said.

``My mate told his dog to shut up. He came out with his gun and we said `what are you going to do? Shoot us with a slug gun are you?' And then he shot us.

``We thought it was a slug gun . . . he had it pointed at us for 20 to 30 seconds before he let it off.

``This might sound selfish but I'm glad it was him and not me.''

Mr Hunt said he used his shirt to try and stop his friend from bleeding.

``Then I went up and asked some people up the street for help. About three or four people came down and helped us out. They had bandages and things. He was bleeding a lot.''

Sergeant David Spencer of the police media unit said the alleged shooter was not armed when he was arrested in his front yard without incident about 8.45am.

Sgt Spencer said yesterday afternoon the man had assisted police with their inquiries but had been released without being charged.

He said police had executed a search warrant in relation and a firearm had been located at the man's residence. Sgt Spencer would not reveal what type it was and said investigations were continuing.

Thrush St was blocked off and surrounded by more than 30 police from the Special Operations Group, Critical Incident Response Team, Dog Squad, Corio CIU and uniform ranks.

Australia banned guns. The homicide rate barely changed. Crime went up. Fact. You have posted nothing to show otherwise. Prove me wrong. Oh, wait, you can't because it is true. There's you nice, no name calling discussion. You lose, based on fact.

Australia didn't ban guns nor have I ever said they did. They restricted gun ownership. Learn to read...

It takes time to get the guns in possession illegally off the streets.

Man shot dog not human. End of story.

Or do you want to go down the road of number of people killed using firearms in the US vs the number in Aus?

But you didn't use a credible web site. Only sites that with positive Aussie info are credible.

I am starting to believe that you owning a business is a bunch of BS. As is the masters you apparently have. Certainly doesn't sound like you have one.

Learn to read yourself. Taking over 650,000 guns off the street did next to nothing to change the homicide rate. Fact.
