When I flew my wife and anak on their first trip to the US PAL gave me a "first time immigrant" discount. Came out to about 20%.

Are airlines still giving such discounts.?

I remember I had to bug the travel agent as she'd said no way. Her supervisor came thru tho.

To be more specific....

Anna had spoken to an agency in the Philippines and they offered her the first time immigrant discount price of $1,600 for both her and Gabby (to include travel tax).

I went on expedia.com and purchased their tickets for $1,267 without any first time immigrant discount!

There was $217 of taxes included with the purchase and when Anna checked in at the airport they didn't direct her to pay any additional taxes, just the 750Php each Terminal Fee.

I think the First Time Immigrant Discount is something cooked-up be agencies in the PH who figure you'll be a repeat customer buying tickets once a year for a while.

For good prices and quick turn-around I would have to recommend expedia, other sites require from 2 to 7 days advance purchase for international flights. I bought Anna & Gabby's tickets at 1:45am (us time) for them to fly at 4:30pm same day (us time) without any problem!

it is just marketing gimmick so better check rates online with orbitz, travelocity or directly with NWA/other airlines, whichever offers the lowest rates.

Sounds like a Marketing Scheme to me

Offer a inflated price on a product/service, and then offer a "Discount" on that product/service.

I will say PAL offers free beer for International Flights and the food is pretty good, and they make sure you are fed well on the long flight to/from US to PI

every international flight i have been on no matter which carrier i got free beer. It would be nice for the airlines to help us out on ticket prices...but it sounds like they just stick it to us more for saying that we want to bring an immigrant over. I will be doing the searches online and my wife's friend knows a travel agent that might actually do us right.....but then again who knows?

Flew to Chicago O'Hare via Cathay Pacific and United Air. We got the first-time immigrant discount, which was about $300 cheaper than the cheapest flight we found online (for my 6-year-old and myself). Please note that this is for those with Immigrant Visas only so that if you have a K visa, it would not apply to you.

12-09-08 - INTERVIEW @ 6:30AM...God be with us! --- APPROVED!!!

12-11-08 - VISAS RECEIVED....YAHOOOOO!!!

04-07-09 - POE: Chicago O'hare

04-28-09 - received SSN's (after having to apply for them personally!!!!)

04-30-09 - Received our 2-year GREEN CARDS

My wife and anak were K3/K4 [nonimmigrant] and got the immigrant discount with PAL.

Hi there,

I guess, You got a nice website on how to get cheap air fare. I should have read this before, but then my Hubby had purchased me a ticket 2 or 3 days before.

I will be flying over to USA on Tuesday night.

Your fiancee and I got approved on the same day though we were not able to meet.

When is she flying to US?

PAL sucks I will never fly with them ever again, some of the flight attendants act as if their ####### dont stink. EVA or ASIANA for the win !

Korean Air is pretty good too. I have flown them a few times and they are some of the better flights and i believe they had more room for their flights too. Asiana is decent...i flew then a couple times too.
