PLYMOUTH, MASS. (AP) - American Indian activists are planning to mark Thanksgiving by holding a "Day of Mourning" in Plymouth.

The United American Indians of New England say they have been holding the annual protest since 1970 to call attention to the disastrous consequences that eventually followed that first feast

between European settlers and Native American tribes nearly 400 years ago.

The group's co-leader Moonanum James, a Wampanoag Indian, said native people have no reason to celebrate the arrival of the Pilgrims.

He called Plymouth Rock a monument to racism and genocide.

Organizers said participants in the protest gathered at about noon on Thursday by the statue of Massasoit on Cole's Hill above the Plymouth waterfront.

They're picking the wrong celebration to protest. Thanksgiving doesn't commemorate the arrival of the Pilgrims. It's a celebration of thanksgiving. If they want to protest a day, it should be Columbus Day, not Thanksgiving.

As you pointed out in the other thread, though:

In the spirit of the first Thanksgiving, the Native Americans had no restrictions on immigration.

Perhaps this protest tell us that maybe they wish that they had restrictions.

Let them do whatever they want, whatever day they want. It's their tribal right.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
