Does the beneficiary need to bring individual express post envelopes? The reason i ask, is that my wife and 3 kids are interviewing the same day and was wondering if we can provide a larger envelope for all 4 packages?

Do they all actually interview at the same time, do they ask the kids questions? Interview time says 8.30am, does that mean they do not have to show up as early as everyone else? Are all interviews scheduled at the same time, then it's first come first serve?

I remember reading somewhere that it was 1 XPressPost envelope per 4 people (I am trying to find that reference for you).

And yes, it really is that everyone has an 8am appointment at then it's first-come, first-served. When we went to ours there were about a dozen or so couples lined up by 7:30. As each couple showed up they went straight for the front door (trying to butt the line). Our little group of VJers would inform them that the end of the line was "back there" to which they would say, "But we have an 8am appointment!"

We all had 8am appointments . . .

Personally I've never heard of the 8:30 interview, however, just by going with how many folks tend to have 8am interviews... I imagine the first-come, first-serve clause still applies. Because regardless of what time you have, if 50 people have 8am, you're still going to be waiting past your time if you show up later.

I, too, have heard that it's 1 per 4 people, specially for family interviews.

It is 1 envelope per 4 interviewees according the the supplemental instructions from Montreal here (page 7).

Due to security clearance processing, approved immigrant visas cannot be issued the day of your interview. Because the issued visa must be placed in your passport, we will not be able to return your passport until the visa is ready. Unless you need your passport for travel, you may return to your address in Canada on the day of your interview. We cannot offer any assurance as to the time when approved visas will be available. Accordingly, you must a purchase a 314 mm x 394 mm size prepaid Xpresspost mailer from Canada Post and present it with your documents at your interview so we can mail your completed visa to an address in Canada. Please bring one mailer for every four family members receiving visas.

Although, this is the older version of the supplement for Montreal, posted at the State Department website. The new supplemental instructions give little to no information.

They do give a "interview time" but disregard that, its first come first served for the most part. Many start lining up around 0700

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yeah I'm pretty sure mine was for 8:30. I think they give people times ranging from 8-9. But like everyone said, its first come first serve, so it doesn't really matter what time it says. If you want to be in and our rather quickly you'll want to be there in line before 7am. We showed up at 6:45 and there were already a couple people waiting.
