Upon receiving case number at NVC

Hi guys,

Apologies if this is a rookie question. My husband and I are using immigration lawyers through his work, but they are not particularly good at communicating with us.

I have just called the NVC message system and our case was entered yesterday. It states that we need to wait till our lawyers are contacted... I was just wondering what an average time for this is... before I can start chasing them myself?

Many thanks in advance for the help!!

Sorry you're going through this. I understand more than you know.

If the lawyer filed your I-130 for you, by default, he/she is your agent. However, if you have a case number, make sure you give the NVC your email address. They will address the stuff to your lawyer, but as long as they have your email address, you will be copied on everything. Because you already designated your attorney as your agent, you will probably receive both the AOS & DS230 invoices at the same time.

I actually had to prepare our AOS & DS230 packages myself & get them to our attorney to minimize the delay. Honestly, if I hadn't read up at VJ on what is required, we'd just now be ordering stuff from the various agencies that takes months to obtain. Our attorney was terrible at telling us what we'd need to obtain ahead of time. I understand they have a lot of clients, and we're certainly not the only one, but...

Thanks so much for that!

Just feels like we're talking to a brick wall every time we try and call the lawyers.

If I'd known how much help there was out there for immigration stuff, I never would have gone through lawyers...

Will call NVC after thanksgiving weekend and go from there.

Best of luck.

One tip - email your attorney and use the "REQUEST RETURN RECEIPT" feature.

It's made all the difference in response time for us.

Do you have all of the documents you need to attach to your I-864 and your DS-230? If not, get on that right away so that you are ready as soon as your invoices turn to PAID.
