I called NVC and they said a RFE was sent to me. I asked the operator what was needed and he said 1) marriage certificate 2) birth certificate 3) letter of employment from me. I sent in both the IV and AOS packet at the same time and I know I sent all three of these items in. Why are they asking for them and what do you guys think the problem is?

Well yeah I know they NEED them but I already sent them with the packet in the first place. I hope they didn't lose them!

.. If they RFEd you for it and you had already sent it they probably lost it RFE = request for evidence? Just send it again lol. Don't waste time on it, they stop working on your files/papers untill you respond to the RFE with what they requested.

Did you send in the original marriage certificate and birth certificate with the I-130 packet or did you send in copies?

You need to send in the original marriage certificate, your beneficiary's birth certificate in the IV package after you pay the IV bill. Your letter of employment goes with your AOS package that you mail in after paying the AOS bill.

I hope this helps. I know RFE are terrible to get!!!

Good luck!!

Hello all,I also got a RFE from NVC pertaining to the DS230 that i sent in.They said my husband didnt complete page 1 and that he needed his original birth certificate, which i thought we sent. And they also said that they need our original marriage certificate, which i sent.

I want to know if anyone knows what they really mean by ORIGINAL MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE,if the one i sent was not? Should i send my husband to the registry to get what ever paper work THEY have?

I am the USC and my husband is in Nigeria,Is there any quick way to get these documents back to the NVC. I have been going through this whole process for 3 years now and I have had everything go wrong that you can imagine, from going through FBI checks to me having to go to a interview here in the USA because my birth certificate looks forged.I guess back in the day your first and last name was written by hand and the rest typed,it did look fraudulent but it was'nt...Now the NVC wants me to turn in documents that i already turned in.Not to mention all these documents have to mailed all the way from Nigeria. Please does ANYONE know any quicker way to get this done.

I'm not sure what you sent? Were you married in Nigeria? If so:

Marriage Certificates

Available from local government bodies if the couple performed civil marriage at the Marriage Registry. Traditional marriages may also be recorded with the local government and a certificate of marriage issued. Places of worship that are registered with the Nigerian Government may also issue marriage certificates for ceremonies performed there. It is obligatory that every registrar and religious minister furnish such documents to the Lagos Marriage Registry, but some fail to do so. Records are generally available through the local government where the marriage took place. The Marriage Registry in Lagos has marriage records dating back to 1802. They are filed by year and place of marriage and can be obtained by writing to the Marriage Registry, 19 Kingsway Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. Since both parties to the marriage technically must be physically present at the same location with witnesses to sign certain marriage documents, proxy marriages have ceased to be valid but still occur.

I don't know of any faster way to get this done. We also had an RFE, it took about a week from the time we sent it for them to acknowledge receipt, and they are now still working on everything. I know it's frustrating, but hang in there!

As for the marriage certificate, where did you get married? In the U.S., I know you just go to the city hall in the city that your marriage took place and get an 'original' marriage certificate. I would definitely try to speak to an operator if you are confused as to what you need to send in. Also, it is not incredibly uncommon for them to lose documents . . . so I might try to get a couple of originals because you will probably have to present them at the interview anyways.

Good luck!
