Hi everyone,

I am new to this website, and i am in the progress of apply for a K-1 visa. I just received my Packet -3 couple days ago, on the checklist STEP One said i need to complete to fill out the DS-230 immidiately and fax it back. However i am still waitting to obtain all the document required for the checklist. Should i wait to get everything get together , such like the : medical exam, police certficate ect. and then fax the completed DS-230 and check list later at the time. Or i need to just fax the DS-230 first? Thank you.

When I got P3 I filled out & sent all the DS forms (230, 160, 156, 156K & confirmation receipt of DS160) along with the checklist.

I checked yes to everything else, even though I didn't have the medical done by that time....but it was (& has to be) done before the interview.

The police check is needed at the interview, so don't send that now.

I sent the DS230 with the checklist. As long as you either have, or about to receive the items on the list, and are sure that there will be no issues in receiving them (such as medical is scheduled and a few weeks away, or you ordered BC and it should arrive in a week or so) then I would send it back.

I actually waited to physically have everything in my hands and lost about a months time in doing so...

Good luck :)

Hey roseh001, welcome to VJ, probably the best site ever ! Now let me start off by suggesting to please fill out your time line as it would the fellow vj'ers a better knowledge of your current situation.

Second of all, does your packet-3 specifically state that you need to fax the DS-230 part-1? I submitted my packet-3 a couple of days back and my packet-3 did not specify anything about "urgently" faxing the forms.

As far as the medical exam, and police certificates go, get the PCC's as soon as you can as they are valid for one year. The medical exam can be completed after you mail off your packet-3.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

For me I got all my papers together from the checklist which took 1 day filled out the forms did the online DS-160. Mailed the checklist and the few forms it requested and I booked my medical appointment. Had my medical and then got my interview after that. You really only need to book the medical before/ while your sending packet 3 off. You dont have to have the actual medical before you send it. As long as its done before the interview.

Many of us didn't even book our medical exams until we found out when our interviews were.

As long as you don't foresee an issue with getting the required items, there is nothing wrong with checking off the applicable items and sending in the checklist/requested forms.

Thank you for all your replies.

In the (K-1) Packet-3 checklist. It didn't ask me to complete the DS-160. (i will be interview in the Vancouver consulate) Is this still required for my case??

Important Notice for Montréal and Vancouver Visa Applicants

Beginning October 22, 2008, all applicants applying for nonimmigrant visas in Montréal and Vancouver must use the new DS-160 application form.

After completing the new DS-160, the applicant will electronically submit the application and will be provided with a confirmation page that includes only limited biographical information and a bar code. Applicants must bring this confirmation page with them to their interview.

Note: If the online application has not been completed fully and properly the applicant's case cannot be processed and a new interview appointment will be required.

This first pilot version of the DS-160 will only be available in English. Future versions will allow the user to see translations of the site in other languages, including French.

Hi roseh001, I hope you are doing okay! Let me get to my answer: I think you should put ASAP or "Earliest date available" on that form. For the people at Montreal, we do not have any specific sections for "Preferred interview date".

This answer is to the best of my knowledge and abilities. I am sure some of the other members can help you with it as well.

Take care !

I don't think you need the DS-160 for Vancouver. It never asked for it on the checklist so I didn't send it in ( I really don't think it is required for the K1 visa in Vancouver yet, I have seen other people say this too) I know my police certificate only took one day to get, and the birth certificate came within a week, so I would just send back your checklist now with your DS-230 part I and get an interview date. I booked my medical as soon as I got my packet 3 in the mail too. Good luck!
