I am working on my affidavit of support documentation. I don't like the idea of giving my the account numbers to my life savings to some stranger. Can I black out the account numbers on my bank/brokerage statements as long as my name and address are indicated on the documentation.

You are also giving them your name, birth date, birth certificate, address, SS#, etc. All the tools for identity theft.

How could the account be verified without the number? Without that you could be supplying any person's statement. You could leave the last 4 numbers visible.

You can, yes. If your income is comfortably above the guideline, you do not even have to list savings...leave it blank. If you have to ask what is "comfortable"...you aren't  Leave everything else blank if your income is sufficient.

You are correct also that you have already given them enough to steal your identity, but a bank statement r letter on bank letterhead with your name is sufficient, and of course you could partially blank out the numbers.

I gave them 3 years of tax transcripts with ALL of the SSN's blacked out.

They appear in several places, not just on the first page.

My name and address was on the documents and they were official copies from the IRS.

No RFE's or AP's from that.

In the successful interview she was told that all our documents were in order.
