Wow. My POE was nothing like what I was expecting.

Here's how it went:

Flight was to leave at 6:45pm. We arrived at the airport at about 4:30pm.

The check in was horribly slow. It took about 40 minutes. Then because I had my dog, a wedding dress, a huge 70lb bag and my laptop bag my parents decided to get a porter for me. This took about 10 minutes.

Finally I went to customs. Waited about 15 minutes in Primary customs. The guy I got wished me a happy birthday and sent me to secondary. This is when it all went wrong.

In customs, there was about 6 other people. I was amazed there was so many people. I waited, and waited and waited and FINALLY at 6:40pm I was called up. I told him that my flight was leaving in 5 minutes so he made it fast. He was really nice about it too. Had me fill out an I-94, but didn't take my Biometrics. So I got that done and rushed my butt through the xray part.

Get to my terminal and the plane is gone. I missed it.

I went to the only flight left out of American Airlines and had to rebook. I flew out of Toronto to JFK Airport that night and had to say overnight in a hotel. The hotel wasnt very good either. Wireless wasnt working, no hot water, etc. It was just terrible. I even missed last call on room service, so I didn't get to eat.

Finally at around 6:30am this morning I flew out of JFK to Los Angeles. I just landed about an hour and a half ago.

It's crazy what I had to go through, I wasn't expecting this what so ever.

WOW!! you sure cut it close!! I show up 2.5 hrs in advance of a regular flight!! Glad u made it safely

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I had to get my parents to drive me, I couldnt take the shuttle because of my dog.

That's why we had such little time, I really didn't expect check in to take so long... last time I tried to take this flight we got checked in right away and customs was fast.

Oh well. Learning experience.

Sorry to hear about all the drama but I'm sure finally being home is making up for it, congratulations!!

Well the reason it was probably so slow is because it's Thanksgiving this weekend and a lot of people travel yesterday or today for the holiday.

I think if I was POEing at an airport, I'd be there like 5hours in advance LOL.

But, welcome home! Enjoy thanksgiving :)

Glad you finally made it. I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving, and get a chance to rest up a bit. Looking forward to hearing about your wedding!

Funny but I never did any kind of biometrics at the airport.
