Not a problem - I'm a PR myself, so gotta know it!

BTW, if one can maintain residency this way, are you also eligible to apply for Canadian Citizenship when you meet their qualification, even though you don't physically live in Canada?

Here's another question for ya:

I'm lurking through the forums and noted that some have their interview at the Vancouver embassy. I'm just wondering why my case is assigned to Montreal (I live in Vancouver)? It would be nice to have my interview in Vancouver, save the travelling inconvenience.

Montreal is the only consulate in Canada that processes immigrant visas.

No, living abroad does not count towards the physical presence requirement for filing for Canadian citizenship.

Montreal: BEAT!!! Approved!!!!!

Yah, that's what the NVC told me too. re: Canadian Citizen, darn! :-) I thought I was onto something, lol. Oh well, can't have my cake and eat it too.

Yes, I do think it might make a difference. I would muster every scrap of information you can get to prove reestablishing domicile. I would state this very clearly in the cover letter - the reestablishing part - I would also state in the cover letter each piece of information. If explanation is needed for an item, I would state this in the letter and perhaps even follow that up with a post it on the document.

While I don't know that you can find out for sure what they want I think the guidelines can point you in the right direction. If you read what they want and it is an item you can't get, maybe try to think of where they were going with that particular item and what you could provide that would amount to the same kind of proof.

For instance, one of the items is enrolling your children in school. If you don't have any children, are you or your wife thinking of taking a class? Perhaps her enrollment in a class for January would make a difference.

It probably can't hurt to contact the Senator at this part and if he can get clarification for you - more power to him

Yea I think we'll wait until later this week when my wife can call the senator before we mail anything in. I just hope that he will be able to get some specific answers and not just the same general "We need further proof of domicile" #######!

i was just thinking that maybe they never received the additional proof you sent a month ago.. or maybe they lost it

I suppose they could have lost it, but they did send my passport back so they still had that. Also we sent it with a courier and it was received.

So you have to send the passport in every time? How long is it taking from the time you send in the additional info until they send back your passport? They indicated to us that it would take 4-6 weeks to even LOOK at evidence.

That's a long time. I guess it doesn't matter if people need their passports for work travel or any other reason.

I know eh? I was concerned because if we did not receive the visa in the mail by Christmas to where we could move then we were going to fly back for the holidays. I talked with a friend of mine who is a border officer to see if there was anyway to cross. He said that if I had a photocopy of it and some proof showing why the US government had my passport then I should be fine to cross. I guess I'll never know for sure since I now have it again but that was my plan if need be.
