This is the story of Wireless Road

Was the CO a Prince or was he a Toad?

All of our papers she gathered in there

At the gate they inspected underwear

They had a chat befoe high noon

She hoped it would be over soon

As she got into the elevator

The Fresh Prince said,

"You aced it, you can pick up your visa later!"

{Will Smith dance & grin} :thumbs::whistle::dance:

Congrats! Something divine for a couple so fine!

Soon she'll be here and you'll let out a tear!

And now it's the end to all the trouble and strife.. and I say to you "isn't time you two got a life?!"

As you dance and you wiggle..... your post made me giggle.

I composed that on my subway ride into the city this morning.

I couldn't leave home until I knew the result, but we hooked

up in real time chat and got the good news.

Buona Fortuna

Grazie, spero che il tuo amore e tu siete insieme presto! In bocca al lupo!

Grazie, my Italian is marginal at best; I'm sending that to my friend Massimo for a translation.

This is as much as I can make out:

Thanks, I hope your love and you are united soon - playing bocce?

Reply from Massimo:

You are funny!!

In bocca al lupo is the equivalent of "break a leg" ....as in good luck, literary tranlslation is :

"in the mouth of a wolf"...it means good luck maybe as if "if you were being mauled by a wolf,,,good luck?" I need to ask my friend in Italy...and let me ask you...why break a leg in english???

Anyhow congratulations!!

(I have been thinking about a bocce field on the bald side yard I now have on th ewest side of the house...)

Happy Thanksgiving

Max

Yes.. in the mouth of a wolf...It was just a good luck for the rest of your journey! I have no friggin idea why we use break a leg....

You think your Italian is marginal.? You should check me out playing charades with Antonio's mom! : ) Everything's cool and groovy when we are doing something so I can pick up what I'm missing.. but when she holds my hand, and talks to me eye to eye I know she is being sweet and sentimental but 90% goes right over the top! That or she is trying to sound sweet while she is explaining that she will have me taken out for taking her baby to America..Anywho I haven't heard her say Vaffan... well you know, so maybe it's good.

That's so typical but I have a soft spot for Latin/Italian culture because the family life is so warm and loving,

which is what my family is too but they're not supposed to show it (goes contrary to our culture).

I was in Africa for 2 years and also saw how extended families supported each other, unlike the "nuclear family" of the States.

Don't pay so much attention to what Antonio's mom says, just watch her hands.

No problem amigo. We haven't had an extended chat since preparing for the interview but we should

have a nice Thanksgiving discussing the interview which naturally wasn't very long.

Any insights will be shared in the consulate report.

I feel the talents that made her excel are confidence and self-control.

All the preparation and memorization in the world can't help if an interviewee feels uneasy or unsure.

There may be something to be said for the theory that the CO will have made his/her decision in

advance based on the paperwork, but the interview can be lost if the CO does not believe what is being said.

Best wishes,

I agree with you on this. Our consulate requires us to submit all the paperwork 7 to 10 days prior to the interview. I am sure once they have recieved our paperwork they have already made a decision. It is also as you said the confidence and the ease the questions are answered.

There are so many interviewees that they have to do a desk review of the paperwork and that is where they decide.

Eye contact and composure are things that can be evaluated only with a face-to-face meeting and that doesn't take long.

This is my consulate review - I already posted it:

The interview went great. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 is

because she got up at 3AM, arrived at Wireless Rd. at 4:30, got in the

doors at 7AM but had her interview at 12:30PM, lasting only 5 minutes!

She was THE first in line I believe but they just called names and it

APPEARED to be in random order. Possibly the order had been pre-determined

by the CO group according to which case would be more difficult or had

documentation problems. If they are interviewing people for a couple of

hours I think they would want to tackle the problem issues first and

leave the ones that had already been decided to the end. She was called

DEAD LAST.

The CO was a young woman (USC) who also did tourist visa interviews.

She made her very much at ease and said "your paperwork is perfect."

Questions:

When did you meet your fiancé?

When did your fiancé come to see you last?

When did you (she) divorce ?

She admitted to forgetting the exact date; she knew mine but not hers

and the CO just read from the document and said that forgetting was no problem.

Mine was July 13 09 and hers was a few years ago that that was OK.

How many children do you have?

Did you have sex with ex-husband?

- I won't tell her exact answer to that but it was a good one.

She met some of the other fiancée visa ladies & exchanged cards

but didn't meet them after because she was the last one out of

the building.

When she got home she played scrabble in English and one of her opponents

complained that she wasn't playing fair because she was blocking his moves!

Blocking is totally within the realm of fair play and the best players do it. :P

I introduced her to the internet scrabble club (ISC.RO) and we play from time to time.

It's little known outside of scrabble circles that Thais are world-famous for

playing scrabble in English and she gives me a good game whenever we play.

I would like to add to this that she said she saw around 15 fiancee visa ladies and 5 of them appeared to be

denied or deferred. I don't know if that is typical but it sounds like a lot; hopefully most were deferred

and can complete the missing visa qualification with the evidence requested.

She just mentioned in chat today that the husbands could come inside the waiting area but not into the interview itself.

She said she didn't talk to them much but concentrated on the spirits of her deceased parents for strength and inspiration

as she was very tired (got up at 3AM to be there early).

She was there first but got called for the last interview. In the end it was all good.
