Interestingly, pucca23 had their interview yesterday and although the U.S. citizen had never lived in the U.S. - they were not even asked to show any documentation regarding reestablishing domicile.

Not sure what they sent to NVC, according to some older posts, it was just basic stuff - SSN, lease with Aunt, tax returns.

Hi Trailmix,

I think someone probably complained with all the issues that were taking place at the Montreal Consulate regarding domicile issues and maybe (hopefully) now everyone is on the same page there and understands that putting people through so much pain and suffering isn't necessary. I've noticed a lot of approvals lately and all are legitimate and well-deserved and I also believe many other ones that were asked for additional documents should have received their visa at their interviews. Oh well, let bygones be bygones and just hope and pray for the best for everyone (and ofcourse myself!)

I am happy for them, but I am getting so tired of this process...really!

I'm happy for them and jealous at the same time...hehe. Lenie, did you call DOS today? I'm so anxious, even though I called yday, i feel like calling them today too....

I called today and they said he was still in AP. At least you know that they are looking at your case, so that's a good sign. Ours is probably sitting in the corner in a pile collecting dust.

Hi Carolie hope your POE went well! I just had a quick question for you...did you call DOS to get updates of your visa? If so, when you were issued the Visa, did DOS tell you first or was it just through your congressman? Thanks so much! Hope your enjoying your time with your hubby!

Hey Cowgirl2, Coralie will be POE'ing tomorrow morning through Vancouver, I don't think she will be able to answer your question right now as she is leaving for Vancouver soon!

As far as her case goes, she and her husband Rod kept on calling their Congressman every week for updates. However, she first got a call from her Congressman's office saying that her visa was issued that morning as they got an email from Paul Mayer, Director, Montreal Consulate.

Just a quick note to say that we were originally turned down in Montreal for reasons of Domicile on March 17th.

I came home an immediately send in additional proof of Domicile to Montreal on March 19th. My husband received his Visa

last Thursday, April 22nd. I also had a lawyer throughout this process. The guy who interviewed me in Montreal

(I think you all know who he is) told me that I had "paid for bad advice from my lawyer." Well she was outraged

that we were turned down in Montreal due to Domicile and she went before Congress and Congressional Aides at

the end of March to speak about our case and is also going to file a formal complaint with the State Department.

Our case was nothing compared to what I have read here on VJ that many people have gone through.

Maybe if enough people speak out the CO officials in Montreal will be re trained on how to fairly judge Domicile.

There is so much gray area in interpreting the law as there is in all Immigration Law.

I personally think if you are a US born citizen and they judge your marriage to be real and honest and you meet the

AOS financial requirements you should not be expected to be separated from your spouse to prove "ties" to the US.

Any US born citizen of the US will always have "ties" to their home country.

Thank you!!

My congressmen got an email from Paul Mayer (now I feel bad for printing his picture and throwing darts at it), saying that my visa had been approved. Then she called me with the news.

I emailed montreal everyday though and called the DOS.. they didnt really give me updates, but it made me feel better to stalk them everyday!

Im sending all my happy thoughts your guys's way though.. montreal seems to be speeding up just a smidge! It will be over before you know it!

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

Hi Sunny,

That's great that your lawyer did that. Yes, everyone is starting to speak out now - I really hope it makes a difference. A few of us sent letters (not email) to Paul Mayer last year, none of us received a reply.

I am all for filing a formal complaint, but I am not exactly sure how to do that. I would rather not send it to the Paul guy since he may be part of the problem. Any ideas?

I just called the DOS and asked them if there is anywhere I can file a formal complaint they gave me an e-mail address. Apparently, you can send complaints about everything from fraud, waste of money, to abuse of power, etc. Does anyone know the name of the interviewer guy that turns everyone down? If so, can they PM me with it? Thanks.

Here is a link to the thread I posted on how to file a complaint. I got this from our Senator's office
