Length of Validity of Petition?

Quick question, may be in wrong forum but here goes...

...once our petition is (hopefully!) approved by USCIS, how long is it valid for to be turned into a visa?

I have in my head 4 months, but wasn't sure if that was 4 months from when it left USCIS or 4 months from it leaving the NVC...or even 4 months at all :)

Yep. London routinely extends the validity with no intervention required on your part. Just have new 'letters of intent' when you arrive at the consulate for the interview (just in case).

technically 4 mos. from date of approval... petition validity can be extended by the consulate

cheers...I ask because we have a set wedding date (so that family and friends have plenty of time to book flights etc) and given current VSC processing times we're potentially facing a situation I never thought we'd be in which is the visa being issued too fast!! Typical, lol...

If it comes to that we're planning on doing things like delaying the interview etc, etc, but obviously don't want to delay it for so long that our petition expires  Ultimately just getting into the country is the main aim and everything else is moveable but would be nice if it all came together - just once ;)

I would think the six month validity of the visa itself combined with the 90 days after entry would be sufficient for your needs. If so, I wouldn't delay the interview. If the visa is in hand, more than 90 days before the planned wedding but less than 9 months before the planned wedding, simply delay US entry until less than 90 days before the wedding date.

The 4 month validity is for the 129F petition itself. This is shown on your NOA2. During this 4 months, it's anticipated that you'll go through the entire remainder of the process and have your visa in hand. Once you get the visa, like the others have said, the visa itself is usable for travel within the next 6 months, and you have to get married within 90 days of entry.
