Hi All,

My K1 visa is currently pending at vermont service centre.

My only concern at this point is the fact that my fiance is still a student and not earning enough to support me when i am in America  ? When will we have to deal with this problem during the K1 process & what can be done?

Any assistance will be appreciated

Regards

Mark

You'll need to be concerned about this right now. At your interview, you're going to have to submit documentation showing that your fiance in the US makes enough money to support you. There are poverty guidelines that he/she will have to meet or exceed for you to be granted a visa. Evidence will be forms, (see above) as well as additional documents such as bank statement's and W-2's. Please see what financial supporting evidence you'll need.

Depending on your country of origin, most countries accept co-sponsors. This will enable another USC to submit documentation that proves that they will "back up" the original sponsor (your fiance) financially. This will show the Embassy or Consulate, that they have the funds, and have documentation to prove this.

Start looking into this now, and have your US fiance look for a co-sponsor if you know about this now so the assembly of documents can be started. The co-sponsor will need to show they can support everyone whom they currently support, as well as yourself, and any children you might be bringing over.

Here's a link to the 2009 poverty guidelines.
