Hi guyz.. i really want to make sure about this one as I am confused. I am still waiting for my passport with visa so I am checking for some cheap tickets and travel agencies I can go. However, my mom is flying from Manila to Houston via Narita, Japan (JAL and Continental airlines) and she wants me to travel with her. Me and my fiance will meet there in Houston.

Anyway, does the K1 visa have restriction in entering a non-US territory? Will it cause a problem when I reach the Japan Airport if I will be getting the MNL-NRT-HOU flight? Since K1 is only a single-entry visa and that I will only be buying a one-way ticket...

Please share anything you know about this. Thanks so much.

From my experience I know that one-way tickets are way more expensive than return tickets. In my case one-way would have been some 1000 USD more. So I got a return ticket with a return for September next year (that was the longest I could get). By then I will probably have all the documentation in order (I will be a US resident so visa won't be required anymore), thus I could travel if I want to.

K1 is solely issued for US and it has nothing to do with other countries. However, transiting Japan may require a transit visa. But it depends on the policies between Philippines and Japan. I think you should check with the travel company - they should know wether you need a trasit visa or not.

Good luck and keep us posted!

You will have no problems going through japan on your way to the US. As long as you dont leave the airport, you wont have to process through immigration there.

In my last 2 trips to Thailand I used priceline.com but it couldn't be used for her trip BKK-NYC because it's restricted to US departures.

One site you could use would be "sidestep.com" - I've used them a lot in the past and they are a "travel filter" that doesn't sell tickets

but sends you to the airline or orbitz, travelocity, or wherever to buy the ticket.

On my last trip to BKK I flew Emirates and it was under $1000 round-trip.

Emirates is in the midst of a HUGE expansion and their fares are correspondingly low to try and snatch market share.

If I were you, I would NOT do that; especially if your connecting flight consists of you changing planes. Some people might be lucky enough to go thru w/ no problems and on the other hand, airport workers CAN give you a hard time even when it's not necessary. Becareful where you get your information from and inquire more than 1 source; such as official government sites, embassy and travel agent. Their answers should match. Goodluck.

My fiance flew through Mexico from Brasil without a problem. However, we contacted the airlines directly to find out any visa requirements for Brasilian citizens entering Mexico. I also searched on Google for transit visa rules between the 2 countries. I don't have the exact site, but there was a place where you could enter your country of citizenship (or your fiance's) and where you were going. It gave all of the rules for traveling between the countries. In our case, my fiance didn't have to go through immigration in Mexico but did have to wait in a special room for people without visas for Mexico. They then escorted him to his next flight. A transit visa would have been an option only if he had 2 stops in Mexico. There was no problem at SFO with the fact that he had stopped in Mexico on his way here. You might contact the POE as well and ask them, but based on our experience we were fine.

you won't have a problem with that route for as long as you don't leave the airport while waiting for your connecting

flight.

if, however, you arrive in narita during the night and your flight is the next day, you will go through immigration and leave the airport (they close at night) and have to get into a hotel. the good news is they don't require a visa for entering japan and you're stamped a 3-day transit visa

Once your travel plans are settled, any city you transit through should not be a problem.

However, when you first hit US soil, whether it's Honolulu or San Fran or LAX, THAT will be your POE I believe,

even if your ultimate destination is Chicago, NY or Atlanta.

Don't assume your POE will be the LAST leg of your overall flight; it could be the first or second one.

I found that out when I returned on my second trip from thailand with stops in Tokyo, San Francisco & NYC.

At San Francisco, I got the whole inspection routine (even of my checked baggage) before continuing on to NYC.

Having a US visa in your passport does not restrict a person from other international travel... The US visa is only for presentment at a US POE... What a person does before is not a US concern....

YMMV
