A copy of the tax return kept by the filer and the supporting documents (w-2, pay stubs, etc) is fine. (Am just guessing this is in reference to an affidavit of support.)

The original is sent to the IRS when you file your taxes each year

hey guys! My interview is already soon and i would like to know if the form 1040 (income tax return) should be in the original form or a copy would do?

Thanks! God bless

Easiest is to use the transcripts you can order from the IRS for free. If using the form 1040 a copy is ok BUT I believe you must sign it, no copies of the signature. Print a copy and then sign in blue/black ink.

How is that easiest? You must order and wait.

How bout take a copy of last years tax return and run it thru your printer / fax machine and make copy, That sure seems a lot easier to me

All depends on how messy your taxes were I spose...

1040EZ would take 2 minutes to copy but a complex 1040 Long Form might take hours to copy and include all the 1099's and supporting papers...

Transcripts might be better if your taxes are complex...

What if there is already a signature on the original? obviously, the copy would have a signature also. Should i put another signature beside the copied one? m sorry this sounds dumb but I am at a lost here.

Thanks u guys!

Maybe be easier but not as valid as transcripts. Pretty easy to call IRS and have the transcripts faxed to you while they are talking to you. LIKE almost instant. NO waiting.

Transcripts are proof of filing but returns just show you made out the 1040. NO proof of filing and can be fake EASILY!

Here is the funny part to me.

Why does one need to bring tax information or tax transcripts.

It sure seems like the Dept. of Homeland Security should or would have access to IRS tax files, but I am thinking they don't.

For one the departments don't communucate much between each oher.

For 2. Why make extra work when the can have you do it.
