So there was some confusion regarding my address and the post office and I had to get my biometrics appointment notice re-sent to me.. I got it today, postmarked from the 20th of Nov ... which would be great if my appointment wasn't scheduled for 5 hours ago, today.

So I missed my biometrics.. I called the USCIS number and the lady told me to write a letter explaining why I missed my appointment and request rescheduling. So I did that but I havent mailed it yet because I am wondering if I would be better off trying to walk in and get them done since I've been reading that rescheduling biometrics can take many, many weeks.

the catch is that my closest center is in New Orleans which is about 4 hours away AND the USCIS rep said that walk-ins are no longer accepted anywhere.

Advice? Anyone have any success with walk in biometrics at New Orleans?

Well we had our biometrics in New Orleans. I had called and spoke to the USCIS rep to ask if we could come in a few hours earlier than our appointment because we wanted to go and get it over with and out of New Orleans by lunch time. She said that we would be considered "walk-ins" if we arrived that early before our appointment and they don't take walk-ins. Well, we went early anyway and got there 4 hours early. They took him back immediately after arriving. It's your decision, it wouldn't hurt if you tried if you don't mind making the 4 hour drive and risk being turned away. Sorry, I wish that I could be more help.

Good luck to you in whatever you decide.

We've decided we are going to try tomorrow. It couldn't hurt. Thanks for your advice!
