K1 -> AOS Filers Thread

So, for the past couple of months I've felt absolutely fine not really touching paperwork, as I knew that my K1 stuff was all ready and simply waiting for the interview. But now that the K1 is done (simply waiting for it in the mail), I've been pouring over the other long AOS thread to see what's in store, filling in some of the docs, etc.

Can't imagine I'm the only one who's looking ahead, so I figured I'd get a kick-start on our AOS thread, seeing as how we're all basically doing it together.

I was happy to find that some of the extra copies I made throughout the K1 process won't be going to waste, like birth certificate, NOA2, etc. I was, however, surprised that the vaccine supplement that we received from our medicals was basically a requirement. Not that I'd planned on tossing it or anything, but considering how important of a document it is, I'm surprised it doesn't have a "don't toss this" warning somewhere.

And, I'm not a fan of the new G-325A form, I've got to say. Nothing seems to fit as nicely as it did in the older form.

So anyhow, anyone else trying to get a headstart on paperwork and such? Or am I simply insane?

I think you're crazy. BTW there's already an AOS thread. I was just gonna read that and probably have most, if not all, my questions answered :)

Yeah, I've read it. I just figured, as most of those folks are done/almost done acquiring their GC, and that there are so many folks that were processed during Nov/Dec, that it might be nice to have a new thread for all of us.

Yay! I can help!

I just had my AOS interview on Monday, so its all very fresh for me still. And I had an interview, so I can give those of you who are stuck with an interview date some advice on what to expect and how to prepare.

For the most part, its quite simple. Just a few forms, some more money, and more waiting, always waiting.

That means you should be able to clear up all of those ridiculous DL issues soon, right?

I've read a bit about it. But I'm not going to get too focused on it. I'm concentrating on getting my stuff together to move in 5 weeks(people I have to notify, etc....) & planning the details of my wedding. That alone is making my mind spin. I'm sure I'll be watching any AOS thread's a little later!

But I think it's cool that a bunch of us will be filing in and around the same time.....

*sigh* hopefully! I'm still waiting on that clearance letter. But I talked to the IO at my interview about my issues and he basically said that was bogus and that I have everything they should have needed. He said name changes shouldn't cause a red flag and they should have accepted my marriage license as prof of the change. He told me that if I get my GC before the letter I should go back to the DMV with the GC and make my case again. So I will. He also said that when they put the GC into production my name should be changed in the system. So I'm trying to be positive! At least the USCIS stuff is done, right?

Honestly, I didn't even read any of the forms until after I moved. It's really not as involved or difficult as the K1. I wouldn't really worry about it yet if I were you. Just focus on your move and enjoy the time off from the paperwork!

It really only takes a couple of hours to put everything together and then mail away.

Sam,

You posted in another thread that Canadians can get FL driver's licenses without being immigrants. True? If this is true, I am going to have Sean get one when he moves down here prior to AOS.

I contacted the Florida DMV explaining that I was moving to Florida on a K1 visa and asked when I would be eligible/if I had to wait until I had a green card in hand. They responded by saying that I'd need to bring my passport, K1 visa, marriage license (assuming they meant certificate here, because the license itself doesn't seem proof of actually having gotten married), and the NOA from the I-485 (AOS) application. I was told I could drive on my Canadian license until that time, and luckily, Ben's insurance company said I could be added to his policy using my Canadian license as well.

I don't know the ins and outs as far as folks getting licenses without being immigrants, only that I know of people who have. I know that, having explained to them what my exact status in the US will be/my situation, this is what they told me. I believe CDAgirlMI was told something similar too.

I think it depends on what State you're in.

Maybe someone from Florida whose gone through it can pipe in for you future Floridians.....

I'm glad this thread was started... if nothing else to just have a support thread for the 20 something of us who are doing it all at the same time. lol

Plus, it's nice to have the freshest information available, and I'm going to be honest, at the moment, I don't want to go through a 23+ page thread to find what I'm looking for amongst the chatter... haha I haven't gone through the EI thread yet either.

anyways, that said, no, I obviously have not looked at it yet. It's been 3 days, and when I'm not working, I've been spending my free time with my fiancé. I'm in the boat of 'I have enough to worry about right now, I will look into it when I have time'.

To be honest....I've had all my forms filled out for about 3 months. All I need to do is add in my Visa number once I get it, print and sign them and I'm good to go.
